Morgan and Quirk Repeat NE-10 Honors

Mansfield, Mass. (October 26) -- Sophomore Niamh Morgan (Bettystown, Ireland / Sacred Heart School) and freshman Shannon Quirk (Wakefield, Mass. / Wakefield Memorial) have repeated as NE-10 Swimmer and Rookie of the Week this week following an impressive performance against Le Moyne on Saturday, the league announced Monday. Quirk's honor marks her third NE-10 Rookie of the Week honor this season.

Morgan broke two pool records this weekend in Assumption's 156-98 victory over Le Moyne. She finished first and broke the pool record in the 200 backstroke with her time of 2:09.95 and also claimed the 200 IM record with her time of 2:13.54. Additionally, the sophomore helped the Hounds' 400 medley relay squad to a first-place victory in 4:06.61.

For its efforts, the 400 medley relay team, consisting of Morgan, junior Rachel Gagnon (Tolland, Conn. / Tolland), senior Victoria Weber (Augusta, Maine / Cony) and sophomore Carylyn Waite (Tampa, Fla. / Tampa Prep), was named NE-10 Relay Team of the Week for kicking off the victory over Le Moyne. The team started the event tallying 11 points for the Hounds with the first-place finish.

Quirk adds the NE-10 Rookie of the Week accolade to her already impressive list this season. She has taken the league's rookie honor each time it has been awarded this season. Quirk continued her impressive freshman campaign this week notching two first-place victories in the 500 freestyle (5:25.43) and also in the 1,000 freestyle (10:49.30). She also helped lead the 800 freestyle relay team to a first-place time of 8:19.21.

Sophomore Carylyn Waite (Tampa, Fla. / Tampa Prep) was also recognized by the NE-10, earning a spot on the NE-10 Weekly Honor Roll.
