-The Lead: Devan Sheth (Ashland, Mass. / Islanders Hockey Club (USPHL Premier)) exploded for a goal and two assists, including an assist on the game-winner, and the Assumption Greyhounds scored four straight goals to defeat a top-two conference foe in the Saint Michael's Purple Knights, 4-3, on Friday night.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
-Michael Zampanti (Winthrop, Mass. / Islanders Hockey Club (USPHL Premier)) netted what ended up the game-winner just 26 seconds into the third period when he tipped a puck sent toward the net by Mike D'Ambrosio (Centreville, Md. / Boston Jr. Bruins (USPHL Premier)), making it 4-2. It was the fourth straight goal for the Hounds, who outscored Saint Michael's 3-0 in the second period thanks to goals from three different players.
-Cameron Stewart pulled the Purple Knights back to within one at the 14:57 mark of the third on a rebound shot. But Assumption goalie David Altman (Bristol, R.I. / Northern Cyclones (EHL)) was stellar the rest of the way, making six third period saves to preserve the win.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
-The Hounds outshot Saint Michael's 30-15. Assumption went 0-for-6 while on the power play and the Purple Knights went 1-for-7.
-Sheth led the Hounds with three points, which included one goal and two assists. He now has one goal and seven assists on the year. Robert Roche (Holden, Mass. / Tri City Storm (USHL)) added one assist but was also +3 while on the ice, moving to +10 for the season, which ranks second in the Northeast-10 Conference.
-Altman has now won three out of his last four contests and improved to 5-2-1 on the year. His 2.64 goals against average and .750 save percentage lead the NE10, while his .907 save percentage ranks third best. Tim Decker made 26 saves on 30 shots but fell to 5-3-0 on the year.
-Assumption hosts Framingham State on Tuesday, January 14, with puck drop set for 7 p.m.
