THE BASICS

-Score: Assumption College 84, Bentley University 81

-The Lead: The Assumption College men's basketball team battled to a three-point, overtime victory, over the Falcons of Bentley University on Wednesday evening. After trailing by as many as 12 in the second half, the Hounds rallied to put up five three-pointers over the final seven minutes of regulation to force the overtime period. Assumption outscored Bentley 10-7 in the five minute period to take home the final, 84-81 victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED

-Assumption started the game on a seven-point run, capped off with a three-pointer by senior Patrick Fleming (Dobbs Ferry, N.Y. / Iona Prep).

-Bentley used seven points from senior Chris Hudson to pull ahead by one with just over 14 minutes on the clock, 10-9. The Hounds responded with another seven-point run to regain a six-point lead at the 11-minute mark, 16-10.

-Hudson added seven more points over the next six minutes to put the Falcons back up by one, 25-2.

-Fleming and junior Matthew Kelly (North Potomac, Md. / Quince Orchard) each knocked down a three, and first year Isiah Gaiter (Meriden, Conn. / Sacred Heart High School / Huntington Prep) made two drives to the basket in the final four minutes to give the Hounds the 37-31 lead heading into the halftime break.

-Red-shirt junior Jordan White (Prince Frederick, Md. / Clinton Christian School) led Assumption through the first 20 minutes with 12 points. Hudson finished the first half with 14 points for Bentley.

-After the Hounds pulled ahead by eight at the start of the second half, Bentley used a three-pointer and a layup from junior Jordan Mello-Klein to tie the game at 43-43 with 16:17 to play.

-Bentley pulled ahead by as many as 12 points as they outscored the Hounds, 17-5 over a seven-minute span. Sophomore Adria Amabilino Perez added seven points in the rally that put the Falcons up, 64-52 with 7:49 to go.

-Sophomore Cal Connelly (Rochester, N.H. / Spaulding / Tilton) knocked down three three-pointers to bring the Hounds within four with 2:44 on the clock, 72-68. After trailing by six with under a minute to go, senior Branislav Vujadinovic (Belgrade, Serbia / St. Joseph) hit back-to-back baskets from beyond the arc to tie the game at 74-74 and force overtime.

-After Assumption pulled ahead by four with 21 seconds to go, Perez hit a three to close the gap to one with 14 seconds on the clock. Kelly knocked down two free-throws to secure the final 84-81 victory for the Hounds.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

-White led the Hounds in scoring with 20 points and grabbed six rebounds in the victory. Vujadinovic finished with 19 points. Kelly put up 13 points and Fleming rounded out double-digit scoring with 10 points and added a team-leading seven rebounds.

-Hudson led Bentley with 25 points and nine rebounds in the setback. Perez finished with 16 points and seven rebounds for the Falcons. Sophomore Mason Webb rounded out double-digit scoring with 12 points.

-Assumption shot 48.4% (31-for-64) from the field and finished the night going 12-for-27 from three-point range. Bentley shot 45.1% (32-for-71) from field goal range and went 11-for-27 from beyond the arc.

-The Falcons outrebounded Assumption 42-34.

-Bentley turned the ball over 15 times while the Hounds turned the ball over 12 times.

-Assumption went 10-for-11 from the free-throw line while Bentley finished 6-for-11 from the charity stripe.

-Assumption hosts Franklin Pierce on Tuesday, February 15th in their final regular season game at 7:30 p.m. The Hounds will celebrate Senior Day prior to the game.
