-The Lead: In a closely contested non-conference game, the Assumption College men's basketball team outlasted the Lions of Molloy College on Saturday afternoon. Junior Matthew Kelly (North Potomac, Md. / Quince Orchard) led the Hounds in scoring with 26 points in the victory.


-Assumption took a seven point lead with 5:31 to play when first year Saxon Thompson (Allen, Texas / The Episcopal School of Dallas / Wilbraham & Monson Acad.) and senior Branislav Vujadinovic (Belgrade Serbia, St. Joseph) put up back-to-back three pointers.

-Senior Nolan Kelly knocked one down from behind the arc to pull the Lions within three with under a minute to play in the first.

-The two teams traded baskets to end the half as the Hounds took a 38-33 lead heading into the break.

-The Lions regained the lead early in the second half when senior Nick Corbett kicked off a 4-0 run with a drive to the basket (46-44). Sophomore Colin Brady made his way to the hoop for two to tie the game at 46 and drained a three on Molloy's next possession to take the 49-46 lead with 13:23 to play. Senior Josh Dennis added a layup in the rally to extend their lead to five.

-Kelly found red-shirt junior Jordan White (Prince Frederick, Md. / Clinton Christian School) for a dunk to bring the Hounds within two (66-64) and White dished the ball to sophomore Cal Connelly (Rochester, N.H. / Spaulding / Tilton) behind the arc for three as Assumption regained the lead, 67-66, with 5:17 to play.

-Brady tied the game at 73-73 with a drive to the basket for Molloy with three minutes on the clock.

-Kelly added six points in the final two minutes of play to help the Hounds clinch the final 83-79 victory.


-Kelly led the Hounds with 26 points to go along with five rebounds. White came off the bench with 12 points while Connelly and first year Isiah Gaiter (Meriden, Conn. / Sacred Heart High School / Huntington Prep) each added 11 points in the victory. Red-shirt junior Malik Brown (Waldorf, Md. / Northpoint) finished the day with nine points and a team leading seven rebounds.

-Dennis finished with 19 points for Molloy while Corbett and junior Steven Torre added 18 and 16 points respectively. Brady put up a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.

-Assumption finished the day shooting 46% (29-63) from the field and 36.7% (11-30) from three-point range. They shot 60.9% (14-23) from the free-throw line.

-Molloy shot 41.9% (31-74) from the field and 44.4% (12-27) from beyond the arc. They finished shooting 62.5% (5-8) from the charity stripe.

-The Lions outrebounded the Hounds 44-33.


-Assumption travels to Saint Anselm on Wednesday, January 8th for a NE10 contest at 7:30 p.m.
