Baseball Falls to Post in North Carolina

THE BASICS

-The Lead: The Assumption college baseball team fell to the Eagles of Post University in their final game in North Carolina on Sunday afternoon. The Hounds are set to travel to Florida for their spring training trip from March 6th to March 15th.

HOW IT HAPPENED

-The Eagles put up a run in the first three innings to pull ahead 3-0. Junior Matt Goehrig homered in the top of the second.

-Assumption put their lone run of the game on the board in the bottom of the fifth inning. Senior Matt Schneider (Dalton, Mass. / Wahconah Regional) kicked things off with a double and junior Dillon Zona (Shrewsbury, Mass. / Shrewsbury) singled to send him home (3-1).

-Post used another homer from Goehrig and two runs in the seventh to claim the final 6-1 victory.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

-Schneider finished the day going 1-for-4 with one run scored. Zona went 1-for-3 with one RBI and senior R.J. Libby (Middleton, Mass. / Bishop Fenwick) finished 2-for-4 at the plate for the Hounds.

-Goehrig finished 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBIs for the Eagles. Junior Tyler Keith was 2-for-5 with one run for the Eagles and junior Devon Ogston had three RBIs.

-Sophomore MacGuire O'Sullivan (Durham, Conn. / Coginchaug Regional) pitched six innings for Assumption. He allowed seven hits, four runs (two earned), and struck out nine batters as he falls to 0-2 on the season.

-Red-shirt junior Noah Meeks (1-0) went seven innings of the mound for Post. He allowed three hits and struck out seven batters.
