Six From Cross Country Earn USTFCCCA All-Academic Honors

WORCESTER, Mass. --  The Assumption College Men's and Women's cross country teams have earned All-Academic honors for the 2018 season from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA), while six Hounds collected individual All-Academic accolades.

For the women's team, junior Kialeigh Marston (Standish, Maine / Bonny Eagle), freshman Sydney McCann (South Dennis, Mass. / Dennis-Yarmouth Regional), and sophomore Tressa Novack (Scotch Plains, N.J. / Union Catholic Regional) were recognized for their academic achievements. The women's team finished with a cumulative GPA of 3.40. For the men's team, freshman Thomas Lucey (Wakefield, Mass. / Wakefield Memorial), senior Andrew Mongiat (Waterboro, Maine / Massabesic), and sophomore Shawn Scullion (Candiac, Que. / Heritage Regional) were recognized for their academic success. The men's team finished with a cumulative GPA of 3.05. These Hounds were recognized for posting a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 of higher while also finishing among the top-30 percent of total eligible runners at the regional championship or in the top half of the field at the NCAA Championships.

Marston, a political science and classics major, placed fourth at the NCAA East Regional, finishing with a time of 22:28.3. At the NCAA Championships, Marston finished 162nd with a time of 25:10.9 in her 6K event. McCann, a biology major, placed 28th in the NCAA East Regional, finishing with a time of 23:37.1. McCann also shined at her first NE10 Championship, she had a strong 1K to place 24th with a time of 23:14. Novack, who's undecided on her major, placed 63rd in the NCAA East Regional, finishing with a time of 24:54.7. At the NE10 Championship, Novack was the fifth Assumption runner to cross the finish line with a time of 24:00.

Lucey, a marketing major, placed 50th in the NCAA East Regional, finishing with a time of 34:50.4. At the NE10 Championship, Lucey was the fourth Hound to finish with a time of 26:35. Mongiat, a Human Services and Rehabilitation Studies major, finished 78th in the NCAA East Regional, finishing with a time of 35:51.8. At the NE10 Championship, Mongiat was the last Assumption runner to cross the finish line with a time of 26:56. Scullion, who is undecided on his major, finished 37th in the NCAA East Regional, finishing with a time of 34:14.8 in his 10K event. At the NE10 Championship, he was the third Hound and 36th overall to finish with a time of 26:24.

Both men and women's cross country teams had a very successful season and hope to continue their success. The women finished third in the NE10 and fourth in the NCAA East Regional. The men, meanwhile, finished sixth in the NE10 and program best seventh in the NCAA East Regional.
