Five Hounds Named to USTFCCCA Division II All-Academic Teams



WORCESTER, Mass
. – The Assumption College men's and women's cross country teams have earned All-Academic honors for the 2017 season from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA), while five Hounds collected individual All-Academic accolades.

Freshman Michael Spooner (Pepperell, Mass / North Middlesex Regional) of the men's team, junior Sara Amato (North Attleboro, Mass. / Bishop Feehan), sophomore Kialeigh Marston (Standish, Maine / Bonny Eagle), senior Megan Corbeil (North Smithfield, R.I. / Mount Saint Charles Academy) and junior Charlotte Allen (West Bridgewater, Mass. / West Bridgewater) of the women's team, were recognized for posting a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 or higher while also finishing among the top-30 percent of total eligible runners at the regional championship or in the top half of the field at the NCAA Championships.

Spooner, a freshman health science major, placed 48th at the NCAA East Regional, finishing with a time of 35:35.9. At the NE10 Championships, Spooner was the third Assumption runner to cross the finish line, as the freshman placed 61st with a time of 27:21.71.

Amato, a junior mathematics major, raced to a 55th place finish at the NE10 Championships with a time of 24:07.15, as the team placed second for the second year in a row. Amato then finished in 58th place at the NCAA East Regional, clocking in at 25:11.7, before competing at the NCAA Division II National Championships and finishing with a time of 24:44.1.

Allen, a junior biology major, registered a top-25 finish at the NE10 Championships, placing 17th with a time of 22:40.35, earning All-Conference Third Team honors. At the East Regional, the junior placed 38th with a time of 24:40.8, before competing at the National Championship and finishing with a time of 24:05.5.

Corbeil, a senior english major, was the fourth Hound to cross the finish line at the NE10 Championship, finishing with a time of 22:28.34 to place 11th overall, also receiving All-Conference Third Team honors. Corbeil than placed 9th at the East Regional, recording a top-10 finish and earning All-Region honors racing to a time of 23:27.4, before crossing the finish line at the National Championship in 22:51.6.

Marston, a sophomore double major in classical languages and political science, recorded a top-10 finish at the NE10 Championships with a 7th place finish in 22:21.09, passing two runners within the last 15 yards. Marston finished in 7th place at the East Regional with a time of 23:25.0, also obtaining All-Region honors and assisting the Hounds to their first ever NCAA East Regional title. At the NCAA National Championship, the sophomore crossed the finish line in 24:02.7, good for a 214th place finish.
