Men's Cross Country Finishes Second in the Worcester City Championships



THE BASICS:

- Results: 2nd/5

- Location: Paxton, Mass. (Moore State Park )

- The Lead: Assumption placed two runners in the top ten as they finished second overall at the Worcester City Championship on Saturday afternoon. 


HOW IT HAPPENED:

- Senior Matt Drummond (Wyoming, R.I. / Chariho Regional) and sophomore Zachary Durand (Harrisville, R.I. / Burrillville) both finished in the top ten, as Drummond plaed 8th with a time of 28:59, while Durand finished two seconds later to finish in 10th palce.  

- Freshman Jonathan Wahl (Chepachet, R.I. / Ponaganset) ran a 5:53 average mile and 29:21 overall to take 12th, and Shawn Scullion (Candiac, Que. / Heritage Regional) was just one second behind him finish in 14th. 

- After racing to a time of 30:00, sophomore Dermot Coughlin (Castleton, N.Y. / La Salle Institute), and senior Jonathan Geromini (Franklin, Mass. / Franklin) tied for 17th. 

-Sophomore Ryan Cardozo (Westport, Mass. / Bishop Stang) and freshman Matt Davis (Gardner, Mass. / Oakmont Regional) took 7th and 8th place for the Hounds respectively. Cardozo ran a 30:29 to place 20th overall, while Davis finished 29th with a time of 32:44


INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

- WPI had 15 points in their first place finish while Assumption totaled 51 points overall. Fitchburg State (89), Worcester State (112), and Clark (131) finished in the bottom three respectively. 


UP NEXT:

- Next Friday, September 29,  Assumption will travel to the Paul Short Invite at Lehigh University.
