Women's Volleyball Splits In Second Day Of Yellow Jacket Invitational

THE BASICS:

- Score: Assumption 3, Felician 0 (Match 1); American International 3, Assumption 2 (Match 2)

- Records: Assumption (2-8); Felician (2-10); American International (1-10)

- Location: Springfield, Mass. (Henry A. Butova Gymnasium)

- The Lead: The Hounds dominated Felician winning by at least four in every set to earn the 3-0 sweep for their second win of the season. Assumption carried their momentum into the match against American International, but came up short and fell 3-2.

MATCH 1: FELICIAN

HOW IT HAPPENED:

- Felician took a 7-3 lead over Assumption in the first set before the Hounds were able to string together four points and tie the set at 16. The Hounds stole the momentum back at the end of the set and scored the final five points to win the set 25-20 and take a 1-0 lead in the match.

- Assumption jumped to a 5-3 lead in the second set before both teams started to trade points with the set being tied three different times. The Hounds took control and won the set 25-21 and earned a 2-0 advantage in the match.

- Felician came out strong in the third set, earning a 6-1 lead before Assumption assembled a comeback. The Hounds scored five straight to tie it at six apiece before tying it at nine and ten to eventually take a two-point lead (12-10). Assumption extended their lead to four (16-12) and kept the lead from that point on to win the set 25-20 and the match 3-0.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

- Alana Hruska (Marlboro, Conn./RHAM) led the Hounds with nine kills followed by Tess Haller (Cape Elizabeth, Maine/Cape Elizabeth) with seven.

- Both freshman setters, Danielle Zarcone (Hauppauge, N.Y./Smithtown High School West) and Kyra Belden (Hollis, N.H./Hollis-Brookline High School) recorded 15 assists apiece while Alexandra Krawczyk (East Patchogue, N.Y./Bellport) earned 20 digs.  

MATCH 2: AMERICAN INTERNATIONAL

HOW IT HAPPENED:

- Both Assumption and American International traded points for the majority of the first set with the Yellow Jackets having the lead until the Hounds scored four straight points to take a 21-18 lead. American International scored four points to tie the set at 21 before Assumption took control and won the first set 25-21.

- The Yellow Jackets took an early 7-2 lead in the second set and kept the lead throughout. American International scored the final five points of the set and tied the match 1-1.

- American International took an 11-5 lead in the third set and extended it to 18-11 before Assumption took the momentum. The Hounds strung together six points to get within two (18-16) before the Yellow Jackets gained control and won the set 25-22 and took the lead in the match (2-1).

- Assumption jumped out to a 6-1 lead in the fourth set and continued their lead to 13-8 before American International came back to tie the set at 13 apiece. The Hounds kept the lead and won the end of the set back-and-forth battle 27-25 to take the match to a set five.

- The Yellow Jackets took an 8-2 lead in the fifth set and the Hounds attempted a comeback, but were stopped short and fell in the fifth set 15-7 and lost the match 3-2.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

- Mary Campbell (Plainville, Mass./Bishop Feehan) led the Hounds in kills with 14 while both Hruska and Ariana Orcera (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico/Colegio Marista) recorded nine apiece.

- Belden recorded a double-double with 22 assists and 12 digs while Zarcone earned 13 assists.

- Krawczyk racked up 25 digs while Orcera earned 13.
