Stonehill Takes Down Volleyball 3-0

THE BASICS:

- Score: Stonehill 3, Assumption 0  (14-25, 14-25, 22-25)

- Record: Assumption (5-14, 3-7 NE10), Stonehill (8-11, 4-4 NE10)

- Location: Worcester, Mass. (Laska Gymnasium)

- The Lead: After dropping the first two sets 25-14, the Assumption volleyball team almost came back to win the third set but ultimately fell 25-22 to drop 3-0 to Stonehill in an NE10 conference match up on Tuesday evening. 
 
HOW IT HAPPENED: 

- The first set was even through the first 16 points, until the Skyhawks went on an 11-3 run to take a 20-11 lead. Assumption scored three more points, two from kills by senior Olivia Burke (Salem, N.H./Salem), but it was not enough as Stonehill had four kills to end the set 25-14. 

- Stonehill held the lead through the entire second set. Assumption came within eight points when senior Julia Goyette (Randolph, Mass./Ursuline Academy) had a kill to change possession but the Skyhawks still had the 16-8 advantage. Later in the set, an error and another kill by Goyette brought the score to 24-14, but Stonehill's Allyson Hughes ended the set 25-14 on a kill assisted by Jessica Givens

- Assumption took a strong 12-8 lead to open the third, until Stonehill scored five straight to take the one point lead. The team's went back-and-forth over the next six points, but the Skyhawks took the 20-16 advantage. The Hounds bounced back to go on a 4-0 run, with two aces by freshman Ariana Orcera (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico / Colegio Marista) and a kill by Burke to bring the game within one. However, two consecutive blocks and a kill by Katherine Delanty the set ended in favor of the Skyhawks to take the game 3-0.  

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

- Assumption recorded a hitting percentage of .278, tallied 44 kills, 55 digs and 12 blocks while Stonehill hit .057 to go with 26 kills, 44 digs and ten blocks. 

- Burke hit .353, and led the team with eight kills and three blocks while Goyette also added eight kills and freshman Waylin Walls Parker (Beecher, Ill. / Beecher) recorded three blocks. Sophomore Brenna Chrisom (Dover, N.H. / Saint Thomas Aquinas) recorded a team-high 16 digs while senior setter Kiki Romanik (San Rafael, Calif. / Sir Francis Drake) had 17 assists. 

- Delanty tallied 18 kills, nine digs, and four blocks to lead the Skyhawks. Claire Manuszak recorded 17 digs while Jessica Givens had 38 assists.
