Women's Track & Field Shines at Reggie Poyau Invitational

THE BASICS

-Meet: Brandeis Reggie Poyau Invitational

-Location: Gosman Sports Center (Waltham, Mass.) 

-The Lead: The Assumption women's track and field team had a stellar showing at the Reggie Poyau Invitational at Brandeis University on Saturday. As a team the Hounds took home first place with a score of 147.

HOW IT HAPPENED

-Sophomore Victoria Steffon (Holden, Mass. / Wachusett Regional) placed first in the 60m with a time of 7.94 seconds. First year Jaimee Hirschfeld (Medfield, Mass. / Medfield) earned third place in the same event in 8.15.

-Sophomore Claudia Koontz (Concord, Mass. / Concord-Carlisle Regional) finished in second place in the 200m final with a time of 26.85. She also earned a second place finish in the 400m in 1:03.75. Junior Elena DelloRusso (Milford, Mass. / Milford) took fifth place in the same event with a time of 1:04.37.

-Freshman Peri Lynn Snow (East Bridgewater, Mass. / East Bridgewater) earned third place in the 800m in 2:30.56.

-The Hounds earned fourth place in the 4X400 relay with a time of 4:23.57. DelloRusso, Sydney DiGregorio (Medway, Mass. / Medway), Madeleine Iassogna (Marietta, Ga. / Blessed Trinity Catholic), and Alicia Polak (Lowell, Mass. / Lowell) competed in the event.

-Sophomore Abigail McKeown (Plainville, Mass. / King Philip Regional) took first place in the women's high jump finals with a mark of 1.56m. Junior Amelie Legg (Hamden, N.Y. / Delaware Academy) earned third place in the pole vault finals at 2.80m while freshman Olivia Johnson (Stratford, Conn. / Saint Joseph) took second place in the long jump at 5:49m.

-Junior Katherine Eckerson (Simsbury, Conn. / Westminster School) earned third place in the triple jump for the hounds at 10.72m followed by freshman Hailey Parrotti (Broadalbin, N.Y. / Broadalbin Perth Central) (10.56m), and Johnson (10.47m).

-Senior Emily Casella (Athol, Mass. / Athol) took first place in the shot put finals (13.00m) followed by sophomore Mikaylah Schwartz (Dracut, Mass. / Dracut) in second place (12.15m). Casella also earned first place in weight throws (14.27m).

-Senior Therese Rembetsy-Brown (Westminster, Mass. / Oakmont Regional) was first in the pentathlon finals with 2712 points.

-Assumption will compete at the Sorlein Invitational at the University of Rhode Island on Saturday, January 18th.
