THE BASICS:
- Event: NEICAAA Championships, Feb. 1-2
- Location: Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center (Boston, Mass.)
- The Lead: Assumption had a solid showing that the NEICAAA Championships over the weekend with four new school records, including two in relay events.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Assumption's distance medley relay came away with a new school record while placing sixth in the event and second among Division II programs with a time of 12:30.26, more than five seconds better than the previous record. Freshman Liz Letizio (Westerly, R.I. / Westerly) led off the relay, followed by Madeleine Iassogna (Marietta, Ga. / Blessed Trinity Catholic) and Meghan Slinskey (Fishkill, N.Y. / Our Lady of Lourdes) with Kialeigh Marston (Standish, Maine / Bonny Eagle) anchoring.
- On Friday in the 200 meter pelims, freshmen Victoria Steffon (Holden, Mass. / Wachusett Regional) and Claudia Koontz (Concord, Mass. / Concord-Carlisle) each broke the previous school record in the event, with Steffon finishing in 25.79 and Koontz in 25.88 seconds. The duo finished 13th and 15th in the event.
- Friday, Steffon also broke her own school record in the 60 meters with a time of 7.88 seconds. She advanced to the semifinals, where she finished 15th overall.
- In the triple jump, junior Nicole McMorrow (Milford, N.H. / Milford) led the Assumption contingent by placing 11th with a distance of 11.24 meters. Senior Sarah Miller (Hanover, Mass. / Hanover) was behind her in 16th with a distance of 11.06 meters. Miller also took eighth in the long jump with a distance of 5.55 meters.
- Assumption's 4x800 relay came through with a new school record in 9:40.04 while placing tenth. The quartet broke the previous school record by more than seven seconds. Marston led off, followed by Letizio and Slinskey with Iassogna providing the anchor.
