Megan Pirez Coaching Graphic Megan Pirez enters her second season as the head men's tennis coach and third season as head coach of the women's tennis team in the fall of 2020.

Pirez led the team to the NE10 Quarterfinals in her first season with a 9-7 overall record and a 7-4 NE10 Conference record. She coached Julia Chappell to NE10 Player of the Year.

Pirez was hired as the head coach of the Assumption women's tennis program in March of 2018 after five years as an assistant with the program.

"I'm thrilled to welcome Megan as our women's head coach," said Gardula. "She has been a valued member of the Assumption community for over a decade, both as a student-athlete and an assistant coach with the tennis program. She has helped turn the women's program into a perennial NE10 Tournament team, and has a commitment to see our student-athletes succeed on the field, in the classroom and in the community."

Pirez has served as an assistant coach for the tennis programs since the spring of 2013. Over that time she has helped turn around the men's and women's programs. Specifically on the women's side, she played a key role in the creation of practice plans, recruiting and training. She was a key factor in the team reaching the 2014 NE10 Tournament for the first time in six seasons.

"I would like to thank Interim Director of Athletics Peter Gardula, Associate Director of Athletics for Compliance Christine Lowthert, Assistant Director of Athletics for Communications Ben Stockwell and the rest of the search committee for the opportunity to lead the women's tennis program," said Pirez. "As both a four-year student athlete and assistant coach at Assumption College, I am excited for the opportunity to continue building upon our strong foundation in this new capacity. We have a great group of student-athletes; I am looking forward to getting started and can't wait to see the growth ahead for our Hound Tennis family."

Over her past three years with the women's program she has helped them win at least ten matches each year, including a 23-7 mark over the past two seasons alone. Assumption went 19-5 in conference play during that span and reached the NE10 Tournament as the No. 3 seed each of those years. In 2016, the team recorded its most wins since 1988 and had five players earn NE10 All-Conference honors.

As a player at Assumption, Pirez was a four-year member of the program as she helped the Hounds reach the NE10 Tournament three times over her four seasons before graduating in 2008. She served as a co-captain her senior season as the team went 5-8 overall before falling to Bryant in the opening round of the NE10 Tournament.
