-The Lead: The Assumption College women's tennis team dropped a hard-fought match to the Skyhawks of Stonehill College today in a NE10 Conference road match.
HOW IT HAPPENED
-Stonehill took victories at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles before sophomore Ana Escudero (Rockville, Md. / Richard Montgomery) and junior Veronica Op (Westfor, Mass. / Westford Academy) earned the Hounds a 6-2 victory at No. 3 doubles over Stonehill seniors Alexandra Vo and Caroline Ray.
-Assumption junioe Julia Chappell (Manchester, N.H. / Manchester Central) defeated junior Isabelle Porter in two sets, 6-4 and 6-2, at No. 1 singles. Stonehill first year Cristina Solorzano Valencia and Vo defeated Assumption's Maria Monje (Worcester, Mass. / Holy Name) and freshman Aimee Figgins (Milford, Mass. / Hopedale Jr./Sr. High School) at No. 2 and No. 3 singles respectively. Solorzano Valencia finished with set scores of 6-0 and 6-3 over Monje and Vo only allowed one point in her 6-1, 6-0 defeat at No. 3 singles.
-Escudero fought hard through three sets at No. 6 singles and earned Assumption's second singles victory of the day over Stonehill's Samantha Ormesher (5-7, 6-2, 10-7).
