Women's Tennis Wraps Up Three Days at ITA Regionals

FLUSHING, N.Y.—The Assumption women's tennis team wrapped up a solid weekend at the USTA/Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Regional Division II East Regional on Sunday.  

Junior Julia Chappell (Manchester, N.H. / Manchester Central) represented Assumption in the main draw and earned the 16th seed at singles and dropped to Gabrielle Sciarrota of Queens College who was the No. 10 seed. Senior Maria Monje (Worcester, Mass. / Holy Name) paired up with Chappell at doubles while the duo of senior Camille Latoni (San Juan, P.R. / Academia Maria Reina) and junior Valeria Sanchez (Carolina, P.R. / Colegia La Piedad) also competed at doubles.

Latoni and Sanchez took down the Southern New Hampshire University pair of first years Selin Seyfettinoglu and Mina Houge, 8-6. The pair advanced to compete with the Queens duo of junior Mana Koitabashi and senior Artaza Martin. Latoni and Sanchez came out victorious (8-6) and advanced to the third round, when they defeated freshman Sara Edebo and sophomore Kristin Radeke from Goldey Beacom. The duo eventually dropped in the quarterfinal round to the No. 8 seed, first year Magdalena Hubickova and sophomore Alexxa Etinne from Southern New Hampshire University, 8-4.

Chappell and Monje took on senior Macha Mourier and freshman Alexandra Dereban from Post University, defeating them 9-7 before falling to sophomore Birdem Oz and freshman Francesca Liligren from LeMoyne in the second round.

The Hounds are back on the road today as they travel to American International for a Northeast-10 conference match.
