- The Lead: Assumption dropped two of three doubles matches and had two singles victories against Merrimack in falling to the Warriors 5-2 on Thursday afternoon in an NE10 matchup.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- In doubles, Merrimack captured two of three matches to secure the point. Assumption's lone victory came at No. 2, where Camille Latoni (San Juan, P.R. / Academia Maria Reina) and Paige Benoit (Holden, Mass. / St. Peter Marian) earned a hard-fought 7-6 win.
- Sophomore Julia Chappell (Manchester, N.H. / Manchester Central) continued her strong singles play, improving to 4-0 on the year with a 6-0, 6-3 victory at No. 1. Junior Maria Monje (Worcester, Mass. / Holy Name) came away with a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 4 singles for Assumption's second point. Latoni won her first set at third flight singles but dropped the final two, while the Hounds' other three singles matches were decided in straight sets.
