- The Lead: The Assumption Greyhounds women's soccer team concluded their regular season with a 1-1 tie with the Franklin Pierce Ravens on Tuesday afternoon, finishing their season with a 7-4-5 record and in ninth place within the Northeast-10 Conference with a couple NE10 foes left to play their final regular season matchups.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

-The Hounds had built a 1-0 lead during the first half, taking it all the way up to the 81:04 mark. Diana Bruggeman (Natick, Mass. / Natick) scored her team's tally at the 34:39 mark when she intercepted a ball and placed a nice shot across the goal and into the left corner for the 1-0 lead.

-Franklin Pierce then tied the game at the 81:04 mark. Veronica Marques got a piece of her head and shoulder on a cross from Gabi Pereira, just slipping the ball into the right corner to tie the game at one.

-Assumption then had a couple good opportunities in both overtime periods, but unfortunately fell short. Annie Irwin (Norwood, Mass. / Montrose School) got a shot on net at the 97:53 mark but was turned away on a nice save by Franklin Pierce goalie Case Kane. Bruggeman then got a wide-open look coming off the rebound but put just a little too much on the ball, sending it high and left.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

-The Hounds and the Ravens both had 18 shots, while Assumption held a 16-15 advantage at the end of regulation. Franklin Pierce had six corners to Assumption's five. Bruggeman had a team-high eight shots for the Hounds.

-Bruggeman's goal give her six on the season, finishing the year with three goals, two assists and eight points in her last five games.

-Alexis Nason (Saco, Maine / Thornton Academy) made eight saves for the Hounds and moved to 5-4-5 on the year. Kane made nine saves for the Ravens and moved to 4-6-2 on the year.
