The Lead:
-On a rainy Tuesday evening, Carly Farina's goal at the 60:53 mark ended up as the game-winning kick as the Saint Anselm Hawks defeated the Assumption Greyhounds 3-2.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
-With the game tied at two, Farina gathered in a pass from teammate Micaela Pitts and placed a shot on net. Assumption goalie Alexis Nason (Saco, Maine / Thornton Academy) got her body on the ball but did so just after the ball crossed the line as the referees ruled the shot a goal, putting the Hawks up 3-2.
-Brooke Shatney (Weare, N.H. / John Stark Regional) tied the game at two at the 53:14 mark. She scored on an open net after teammate Kallie Villemaire (Plattsburgh, N.Y. / Beekmantown) beat Hawks' goalie Payton Wildrick to the loose ball.
-The Hawks led 2-1 at halftime. Villemaire scored the team's first goal at the 8:22 mark on a shot assisted by Ania Spina (Wallingford, Conn. / Mark T. Sheehan).
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
-Saint Anslem held a 22-15 shot advantage, outshooting the hounds 14-7 in the first-half. They also held an 8-6 advantage in corner kicks. Villemaire led the team with five shots.
-It was the fourth time this season Villemaire notched at least one goal and one assist. She now has eight goals and four assists on the year.
-Shatney, a sophomore, scored her first goal of the season and second of her collegiate career.
-Nason made nine saves for the Hounds but fell to 3-6-0 on the year. Wildrick made four saves for the Hawks and improved to 4-5-0 on the year.
