WORCESTER, Mass. - The Assumption's varsity 4 boat set a new school record on Saturday in its final race of the year, while the varsity 8 boat also put forth a strong showing at the Dad Vail Regatta on the Schuylkill River this weekend.

On Friday, Assumption's Varsity 4 came through with a fourth place finish in their heat with a time of 9:14.4, 12 seconds behind Mercyhurst who took third. However, the team rebounded with a record-breaking performance on Saturday, finishing in 7:43.56 and just 13 seconds out of third place in the race.

The Varsity 8 was racing right with Mercyhurst over the final 500 meters when an oar issue put them behind and they finished fourth in 8:08.17 seconds in their opening race. The team then raced Nova Southeastern for a spot in the grand final and came up just short, finishing in second with a time of 7:32.6.

varsity 4 pic Coach Aline Seekins was pleased with her team's efforts. "Both boats had a great weekend of racing and finished out the year on a high note," said Seekins. "We had 5 seniors this year who have put a lot into this team in their time at Assumption College and wish them the best in the future. With 17 team members returning and 5 freshmen coming in we look forward to picking up in the fall where we left off this spring."
