WORCESTER, Mass. -  The Assumption women's rowing program continued its strong start to the 2018-19 season with three solid races in rainy conditions at the Quinsigamond Snake Regatta on Saturday morning.

In addition to their performances on the water, the team was also able to raise $350, as part of its pink out bake sale, which will be donated to the Baystate Health Foundation to benefit families dealing with breast cancer.

The morning started with the Varsity 4 at 9:39 am, who finished 15th with a time of 20:02.7. The women's Varsity 8, meanwhile pulled through with a ninth place finish out of 15 boats, edging the 'A' boats for Clark and Middlebury with its time of 16:48.3. WPI won the event with a time of 15:04.2.

In the team's final race of the day, the Novice 8 finished its race in 20:03.4 featuring four rowers in their first collegiate races and good enough to place 11th. The team did edge the Johnson & Wales 'A' boat by nearly two seconds. MIT won the event with a 16:31.2, a minute faster than any other boat.

Head coach Aline Seekins was pleased with what she saw on the water. "Even though it was rainy and cold all morning we still had a great morning of racing. The Novice 8 had four people racing for the first time and it was great to get them this race experience in the fall. This was the first time in Assumption history that we were able to field two 8's and a 4 at the Quinsigamond Snake Regatta which speaks to the depth of the program we have this year. The Varsity 8 was also able to finish with a closer margin to the competition compared to last year's event."

Assumption's Varsity 8 returns to action on Oct. 21 when the team will compete in the Collegiate 8 race at the Head of the Charles Regatta.
