PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The Assumption women's rowing team concluded a great season at the Dad Vail Regatta, as both the Varsity 4 and Varsity 8 boats set new boat records this past weekend.
The Varsity 4 took fourth in their opening heat on Friday, setting a new program record with a time of 7:54.2 and placed fourth to advance to the petite final. On Saturday the team finished their race in 8:09.1, placing fifth.
"This was the first race of the year with this line up for the Varsity 4 and they did great blending as a boat and putting a good weekend of racing together," said head coach Aline Seekins.
On Friday the Varsity 8 took fourth in their heat with a strong time of 7:07.7 to earn a spot in the petite final. A day later, the Varsity 8 finished its race in a record time of 6:50.9 and just 0.5 seconds behind regionally ranked Nova Southeastern.
"The V8 had the best race of the year in the final," said Seekins. "They trusted their training, trusted themselves, and most of all trusted each other and left everything on the water in Philly!"
Overall coach Seekins was excited by her team's performance this year. "This was the perfect ending to a fantastic season of racing a full DII team all year," said Seekins. "With over half the team coming in as freshmen this year I wasn't sure how they would blend with the returners, but each person on the team worked hard every day and became one team. I am very excited to see what they can do next year coming off this successful season!"
