Women's Rowing Impresses at New England Rowing Championships

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Assumption women's rowing team received strong performances from both its Varsity 4 boat and Varsity 8 boat on Saturday at the New England Rowing Championships held on Lake Quinsigamond.

The Varsity 4 boat finished fifth in its time trial to reach the grand final later in the day. They raced in the final at 2:18 and placed fourth overall with a time of 8:09.6, its fastest time this spring. The boat was just nine seconds out of second, while edging New Hampshire who placed fifth with a time of 8:10.3.

Assumption's Varsity 8 took sixth in its opening heat of the day with a time of 7:08.4 to advance to the third level final. Racing at 5:17 pm in the final, they placed fifth in the heat with a time of 7:25.8. Middlebury won the heat in 7:16.1, followed by Amherst, Johnson & Wales and Mt. Holyoke.

"Both boats had a really good day of close racing with the competition," said head coach Aline Seekins. "It was great to see the improvement the team has made over the past year."
