Abbey Capobianco

Abbey Capobianco-Simone enters her tenth season as the Assumption College women’s lacrosse head coach following an impressive 2019 campaign. She is the program’s all-time leader in wins, posting an 81-74 career record.

During Coach Capobianco-Simone tenure, the Hounds have earned IWLCA All-Academic Team honors for a Team GPA of over a 3.0 every season. In addition to her college coaching duties, Capobianco-Simone was named the Boston Storm head coach in May of 2017, a member of the United Women’s Lacrosse League.

This past season, Assumption earned its highest national ranking in school-history of 9th. The team received their first ever regional ranking in 2019 and was ranked top four all season. Senior Sarah Reilly was named a First Team All-American and earned First-Team All-Conference and All-Region honors along with being selected with teammate and co-captain Meghan Cushing for the Senior All-Star Game. Cushing and Emily Spath earned Second-Team All-Conference honors and All-Region honors while Grace McDermott earned Third-Team All-Conference and Allie Collins earned All-Rookie Team. Capobianco-Simone coached all five mentioned above to places in the record book while Reilly and Cushing set new school records. She led the team to their third straight NE10 tournament appearance where the Hounds made it to the semifinals and ended the year with a 14-5 overall record and a 9-4 conference record. 

In 2018, Assumption earned its first national ranking in school-history, rising as high as 23rd in the nation and concluding the year ranked 25th. Junior Sarah Reilly earned Second-Team All-Conference and All-Region honors as the team went 9-8 and advanced to the NE10 Tournament for the second straight season. 

In 2017, the Hounds went 9-8, including a perfect 3-0 record in overtime games.  It marked the fourth time in five years Assumption won at least nine games. The team earned the program’s first win over Bentley and first top-six seed in the NE10 Tournament since 2005. Goalie Jaclyn Chirco because the first Assumption player to earn IWLCA Second-Team All-Region honors, while also being named All-Conference. Freshman Amanda Burns were selected to the All-Rookie Team.

 In 2015, the Hounds posted a 10-8 overall record that featured a 5-4 home mark and a berth in the Northeast-10 Conference Tournament as the No. 7 seed. Receiving votes in the IWLCA National Poll numerous times during the season, the team's 10 wins set the single-season record for victories. Senior Amy McNeil, who was named as an IWLCA Third Team All-Region selection, finished her Assumption career as the program's all-time leading goal and point scorer. Freshman Meghan Cushing also posted one of the top freshman seasons in the Northeast-10 as she earned All-Rookie honors.

The 2014 squad picked up a second-straight nine-win season as the team finished 9-7 overall. In 2013, Capobianco-Simone guided the Hounds to a 9-8 overall as the team received votes in the IWLCA National Poll. The season marked the first winning record for the program since the 2002 season and tied the single-season program record for victories.

During her first season at Assumption, Capobianco-Simone guided the team to an overall record of 7-8, marking the third-best improvement in NCAA Division II women’s lacrosse.

In addition to her duties at Assumption, she also coaches for Boston Laxachusetts, one of the premier club programs in New England. Capobianco-Simone also is the assistant director of the Nike Lacrosse Camp while also working at the Boston College Elite Camp and UMass Camps. In addition, she also founded the lacrosse program at Belchertown High School in Belchertown, Mass.

Capobianco-Simone, a native of Framingham, Mass., is fifth in Central Connecticut women’s lacrosse history in career points with 94 and third in career goals with 78. She owns two of the top five scoring seasons in program history, scoring 48 points on 37 goals and 11 assists as a sophomore and 46 points on 41 goals and five assists as a freshman. Her 41 goals as a freshman is the third-highest single-season total in program history, while her 37 goals as a sophomore is fourth all-time. Capobianco-Simone also played soccer during her two years at Central Connecticut, helping the Blue Devils to the 2005 Northeast Conference Championship and a berth in the NCAA Tournament.

In November of 2019, in just its second year of existence, Capobianco-Simone was inducted into the Framingham High School Hall of Fame.

She transferred to the University of Massachusetts in 2007 and played lacrosse as a junior and ice hockey as a senior. Capobianco-Simone, who graduated from the University of Massachusetts in 2009 with a Bachelor’s degree in Arts and Humanities, has also coached for the Massachusetts Elite Lacrosse Club.

As a senior at Framingham High School, she was named as an All-American while earning First Team Bay State League All-Star honors for three seasons and scoring 117 goals to lead the State of Massachusetts in scoring as a senior. As a senior, Capobianco-Simone captained the team to the state championship game and a 24-2 record.
