Women’s Lacrosse Faces No. 1 Le Moyne in NE10 Semifinals

WORCESTER, Mass. – Following a dramatic victory in the NE10 Quarterfinals, No. 5 seed Assumption advances to play top ranked and defending national champion Le Moyne in the NE10 Semifinals on Saturday morning at 11 a.m.

Last Time Out
Assumption took down No. 4 seed Bentley on Wednesday evening in a dramatic 10-9 contest. The Hounds led for much of the game, until the Falcons tallied back-to-back goals in the final 20 minutes for a 9-8 lead. Sarah Reilly tied it up with ten minutes left and Assumption scored at 9:50 for a 10-9 lead. Allie Collins made two saves in the final two minutes, including one with four seconds left to secure the win. Collins finished with a career-high 16 saves while Reilly tallied three goals.

Playoff Picture
The Hounds were one of three higher seeds to advance to the NE10 Semifinals. No. 6 New Haven took down No. 3 Pace 13-12 in overtime while seventh seeded Merrimack upended Adelphi 16-14. Top seed Le Moyne took down Stonehill 14-4.

NE10 Tournament History
Assumption is making its third straight NE10 Tournament appearance this year. Wednesday's victory over Bentley was its first win in the NE10 Tournament since 2005. In that contest, the Hounds took down Saint Michael's 11-10 on the road. Last year the team fell 23-10 to No. 2 seed Adelphi, despite holding a lead against the Panthers late in the first half. Overall the Hounds are 4-6 in NE10 Tournament.

Scouting Assumption
The Hounds enter the weekend with a 14-4 record and have won seven of their past eight games. They rank second in the NE10 this year, averaging 15.5 goals per game and are tied for second in draw controls per game at 15.6. Defensively, the team is allowing 11.5 goals per game. Sarah Reilly leads the team and ranks second in the NE10 with 95 points on 69 goals and 26 assists, while also grabbing a team-high 94 draw controls. Emily Spath, meanwhile, ranks fourth nationally with 59 assists and has 28 goals for 87 points this season. Kailyn Hart is third on the team with 75 points (57g, 18a), while Olivia Angelo has 45 points (30, 15a). Defensively, Grace McDermott leads the team with 41 caused turnovers and 37 ground balls, while Marran Oakman has 77 draws, 38 ground balls and 35 caused turnovers. In net, Allie Collins has posted a 13-4 record with an 11.53 GAA and 44.6 percent save percentage, though over the past seven games has a 10.57 GAA with a .516 save percentage while making 11.3 saves per game.

Scouting Le Moyne
The Dolphins come into the weekend at a perfect 18-0 this season and have had just two games decided by five or fewer goals this season. They lead the conference, averaging 16.3 goals per game, while giving up an NE10-best 5.2 goals per contest. They also average 15.6 draw controls per game. NE10 Attacker of the Year Bryanna Fazio leads the offense with 85 points on 60 goals and 25 assists with 135 draw controls. Sidney Hall is second with 68 points on 33 goals and 35 assists while Erin McMullen has 44 goals and 16 assists. Monica Sanna does a bit of everything with 93 draws, 24 ground balls, 17 caused turnovers and 35 goals. Jessica Dussing and Olivia McEntee both have 26 caused turnovers to lead the defense. In net, Hannah George has started all 18 games, posting a 5.33 GAA with a 54.8 save percentage.

 

Recent History
Assumption hosted Le Moyne earlier this season and fell by a 16-5 margin. The teams were tied 2-2 through the first ten minutes of action, however, the Dolphins finished the half on a 9-1 run for an 11-3 lead at the half and pushed it to 14-3 in the second. Helen Tautkus scored twice while Collins stopped nine shots. In 2018, Le Moyne beat Assumption 18-5 in Syracuse and then earned a 10-3 win in 2017 in Worcester.
