Women’s Lacrosse Travels to Bentley for NE10 Quarterfinals Tonight

WORCESTER, Mass. – No. 5 seed Assumption looks to continue its record-breaking season when the team travels to face No. 4 seed Bentley in the NE10 Quarterfinals on Wednesday at 7 p.m.

Last Time Out
Assumption concluded its regular season with a dramatic 14-13 victory over Merrimack this past Saturday. The Hounds led 14-8 with ten minutes left in regulation, but the Warriors scored four times over the next eight minutes to cut the deficit to just 14-12. They added one more goal with 21 seconds to pull within one, but Assumption held them off to come away with the victory. Sarah Reilly led the offense with seven goals and one assist while Allie Collins made 12 saves in net.

Playoff Picture
The Hounds tied for third in the NE10 this season by going 9-4, its best-ever finish in the regular season. There was a four-way tie for third and the team dropped to fifth in the conference tournament following tiebreakers. Pace earned the No. 3 seed, while Bentley was 4th, followed by Assumption and New Haven. Le Moyne enters as the top seed while Adelphi is second.

NE10 Tournament History
Assumption is making its third straight NE10 Tournament appearance this year. Last year the team fell 23-10 to No. 2 seed Adelphi, despite holding a lead against the Panthers late in the first half. Overall the Hounds are 3-6 in NE10 Tournament play, however, they haven't advanced out of the Quarterfinals since 2005. The team's last victory in the postseason was an 11-10 victory at Saint Michael's back in 2005.

Scouting Assumption
The Hounds enter today's game with a 13-4 record and have won six of their past seven games. They rank second in the NE10 this year, averaging 15.8 goals per game and are ninth nationally in draw controls per game at 16.1. Defensively, the team is allowing 11.6 goals per game. Sarah Reilly leads the team and ranks 15th in the nation with 91 points on 66 goals and 25 assists, while also grabbing a team-high 90 draw controls. Emily Spath, meanwhile, ranks fourth nationally with 59 assists and has 27 goals for 86 points this season. Kailyn Hart is third on the team with 73 points (55g, 18a), while Olivia Angelo has 44 points (29g, 15a). Defensively, Grace McDermott leads the team with 39 caused turnovers and 35 ground balls, while Marran Oakman has 75 draws, 38 ground balls and 35 caused turnovers. In net, Allie Collins has posted a 12-4 record with an 11.69 GAA and 43.0 percent save percentage, though over the past six games has a 10.83 GAA with a .492 save percentage while making 10.1 saves per game.

Scouting Bentley
The Falcons enter today's game at 11-5 overall and 9-4 in the NE10. They are averaging 11.7 goals per game but give up just 11.3 goals per game. This year Bentley has had five games decided by one goal, going 4-1 in those contests with four of them going to overtime. Julia Glavin leads the team with 65 points on 53 goals and 12 assists, along with a team-high 103 draw controls. Cara McCarthy has scored 40 goals with three assists while Caroline Boudreau has 32 goals and one assist.  Defensively, Priscilla Bibeau has 20 caused turnovers and 24 grounds, while Christine Fish has added 16 caused turnovers and 29 ground balls. Goalie Eliza Bresler is aggressive in net, with 32 caused turnovers and 65 ground balls to lead the NE10. She has also started every game, posting an 11.24 GAA with a 53.1 save percentage while making 12.9 saves per game.

Recent History
Earlier this year Bentley earned a 13-12 double overtime victory against the Hounds in Waltham. Assumption jumped out to a 6-3 lead at the half and led 11-7 with 10:30 left in regulation. Bentley finished the game on a 5-1 run, eventually tying it up 12-12 with 1:14 remaining. Each of the Falcons' final two goals were scored on a man-up situation. Bentley took the only shot of the first overtime and Assumption got off four shots in the second overtime before the Falcons tallied the game-winner with one second left in double overtime. Reilly had four goals while McCarthy led Bentley with six and Bresler made 16 saves in net.
