Sarah Reilly Named Finalist For YRL Unsung Hero Award

WORCESTER, Mass. – Assumption junior Sarah Reilly (Fairfield, Conn. / Fairfield-Warde) has been named a finalist for the Yeardley Reynolds Love Unsung Hero Award, presented by the One Love Foundation, which recognizes one male and one female student-athlete from each division who make significant contributions to their team and community.

Named for the women's lacrosse player who lost her life from relationship violence in May 2010, the YRL Unsung Hero Award is given to student-athletes who "demonstrate dedication, integrity, humility, hard work, community service, leadership, kindness and sportsmanship – all qualities Yeardley exemplified throughout her life."

Reilly had a breakout campaign as a junior, registering at least one point in every contest and finishing the year with a school-record 88 points. Her 62 goals were the second-most in a single season in program history while her 26 assists were the second-most as well. Reilly concluded her season with three goals and one assist in a loss to top-ranked Adelphi. She currently ranks third all-time in points (174), goals (118) and assists (56).

Off the field, Reilly boasts a 3.8 GPA as a Marketing major with a minor in Psychology. She was one of two Assumption students selected to attend the National Apple Training for Leadership. From that experience was inspired to help found the I AM Mentor Program, a mentorship program for first-year student-athletes which began this spring and will be fully implemented in the fall of 2018. She also served on SAAC as the mental health chair this past year and was recently voted to be the SAAC President for the 2018-19 academic year.

"Sarah is a selfless, dedicated leader and inspires us all to be better," said head coach Abbey Capobianco-Simone. "She does everything with a smile on her face and makes the hardest task look easy. Sarah exemplifies teamwork. The effort she puts forth on the field is matched in the classroom and the community. She makes those around her better with her expectation of excellence. This is an incredible honor and we are so proud of Sarah."

Reilly is among three Division II finalists for the Award, and the winner will be announced in late May. To learn more about the One Love Foundation click here.
