No. 23 Women's Lacrosse Sets Scoring Record in 27-14 Win over Southern N.H.

THE BASICS:

-Score:  Assumption 27,Southern New Hampshire 14

-Record: Assumption (6-4, 3-4 NE10), Southern New Hampshire (2-9, 1-6 NE10)

-Location: Worcester, Mass. (Multi-Sport Stadium)

- The Lead: No. 23 Assumption put up a school-record 27 goals, with eight players scoring at least twice in an impressive 27-14 victory over Southern New Hampshire on Saturday afternoon in conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

- Assumption came out hot as the team scored three goals within the first three minutes of the game. The first goal came in the first minute, as Meghan Cushing (Gorham, Maine/Gorham) found the net with an assist from Kailyn Hart (Cohoes, N.Y. / Shaker). Hart then responded with her own goal, as well as a goal from junior Sarah Reilly (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield-Warde). The Hounds and Penmen exchanged goals, before another 3-0 run by Assumption extended the lead to 7-2 with 21 minutes left in the first half. Jenny Bush (Kennebunk, Maine/Kennebunk) scored two of the three goals.

- The Penmen responded with a 5-2 run to trim the Assumption lead to only 9-7 at 10:30. The Hounds answered with six consecutive goals in just over two minutes, extending their lead to 15-7. Allison Foley (Walpole, Mass./Walpole) scored consecutive goals during the stretch, and SNHU did net two goals in the last five minutes, but Reilly ended the period with a score for the 16-9 advantage at the break.

- Assumption started the second half right where they left off as Amanda Burns (Billerica, Mass./ Billerica) and Reilly notched two goals within the first minute of the second half. The Hounds netted three more goals as they extended their lead 21-11 at 21:33. The Penmen cut it to nine with 20 minutes left, but a 4-1 run by Assumption over the next 13 minutes stretched it to 25-13 on the way to the 27-14 final.  

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

- Assumption outshot SNHU (51-27) while picking up more groundballs (19-15) and draw controls (31-13). The 27 goals was a program-record, breaking the mark of 24 set last year against Dominican, as were the 16 assists and 40 total points. 

- Reilly led the way for the Hounds with a season-high eight points on six goals and two assists with seven draws while Foley was right behind her with a career-high seven points on five goals and two assists. Burns added four points (3G, 1A) and picked up eight draw controls. Cushing chipped in a career-best nine draws while recording two goals and one assist. Bush supplied four goals on five shots with five draws.

- Kyra Goucher (Derry, N.H./Pinkerton Academy) took the win as she made eight saves in 60 minutes of action. Morgan Cushing (Gorham, Maine / Gorham) and Grace McDermott (Franklin, Mass. / Franklin) led the defense with two caused turnoves apiece.

- Alexa Bedell led SNHU with three goals and two assists while Kristin Wilder had five goals on seven shots. Leah Olansky took the loss in net as she played 13:47 and gave up eight goals with three saves. Alex Comeau played the final 46 minutes and stopped ten shots with 19 goals allowed.
