No. 25 Women's Lacrosse Shoots Past Stonehill 16-6

THE BASICS:

- Score: No. 25 Assumption 16, Stonehill 6

- Records: Assumption (5-3, 2-3 NE10), Stonehill (4-4, 3-4 NE10)

- The Lead: No. 25 Assumption earned the program's first-ever win over Stonehill in dominant fashion, taking a 14-2 lead at the half and finishing with an impressive 16-6 victory over the Skyhawks in a crucial conference win on Wednesday evening. 

HOW IT HAPPENED:

- Junior Kailyn Hart (Cohoes, N.Y. / Shaker) led off the scoring just 2:12 into the contest on an assist by Caitlin Graves (Ashland, Mass. / Ashland). Less than one minute later, Sarah Reilly (Fairfield, Conn. / Fairfield-Warde) extended it to 2-0. Stonehill got on the board at 25:53 before three more Assumption goals over the next six minutes stretched the lead to 5-1. Reilly made it 6-1 on her third of the game at 17:42, though the Skyhawks scored midway through the first to cut it to 6-2.

- Senior Meghan Cushing (Gorham, Maine / Gorham) fed Reilly for the 7-2 advantage with 14:43 remaining, followed by goals from Callie Dwyer (Merrimack, N.H. / Merrimack) and Emily Spath (Franklin, Mass. / Franklin) for a 9-2 lead with 11 minutes left. Reilly scored once more in the period while Dwyer put home two goals and Allison Foley (Walpole, Mass. / Walpole) and Amanda Burns (Billerica, Mass. / Billerica Memorial) each scored once for a 14-2 lead at the break.

- Reilly pushed the Assumption advantage to 15-2 just one minute into the second half. Stonehill finally ended the nine-goal run two minutes later, and then scored twice more over the next ten minutes to trim the Hound lead to 15-5. Spath notched her second of the game with 8:58 left for the 11-goal advantage and the Skyhawks managed one more for the 16-6 final.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

- The victory is the first in program history for Assumption over Stonehill. The Hounds finished with a 31-14 advantage in shots, while picking up more ground balls (22-16) and winning 15 of 23 draw controls in the contest.

- Reilly was dominant as she finished with seven points on six goals and one assist with four draw controls, while Dwyer had her third career hat trick and two caused turnovers. Hart had three points on two goals and one assist. She was one of seven players with at least two points. Cushing did a bit of everything with three draws, three ground balls, one goal, one assist and one caused turnover.  

- In net, sophomore Kyra Goucher (Derry, N.H. / Pinkerton Academy) was solid as she earned the victory by allowing just six goals and making four saves. Bailey Grant took the loss as she stopped nine shots and gave up 16 goals.

- Lauren Smith led Stonehill with two goals and one assist while Brianna Doherty had one goal and one assist.
