-The Lead: After improving their score by 17 strokes on the second day of competition the Assumption College women's golf team placed 8th overall shooting a combined 675 in the Le Moyne Fall Invitational.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Sophomore Catherine French (Dudley, Mass. / Shepherd Hill Regional) remained in first for the Hounds on the second day but moved from 15th overall to tie for 6th after improving her score by seven strokes. She shot a 2-over 74 on the second day and a 155 (+11) overall for the event.
- After day two Christine Cutting (Scituate, Mass. / Scituate) improved her score by six strokes shooting a 79 and 164 overall to tie for 26th overall while Mia Rapoza (Westport, Mass. / Bishop Stang) cut one stroke off her score to remain tied for 32nd place overall.
- Senior Alyssa Ruggieri (Cranston, R.I., /Cranston West) placed 60th shooting a 199 over the two days and just one stroke behind her Casey Gurlitz (Auburn, Mass./Auburn) tied for 61st overall.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- French led the Invitational in birdies with seven, while Cutting led the Hounds in pars with 21. Four out of five golfers improved their scores on the second day of competition.
- Franklin Pierce (613), Kutztown (615), Gannon (637), Merrimack (319), and Le Moyne (325) placed in the top five respectively. Behind Le Moyne by one stroke was West Chester who shot a 326. Mercyhurst and East Stroudsburg finished 7th and 8th just before the Hounds, while Post (347), Saint Rose (353), and Adelphi (366) concluded the standings.
UP NEXT:
- Next weekend, September 24 & 25, the Hounds will travel to Merrimack to compete in the NE10 Championship.
