Golden Earns Crown & Shield Award

WORCESTER, Mass. – After an impressive senior year, women's basketball's Katherine Golden (Millis, Mass./Millis) earned the Crown and Shield Award.

The Crown and Shield Award is given to a student who has demonstrated leadership and participated in service to the College throughout his/her four years.  This student is a recognized member of the Assumption College Community who has protected (shield) and furthered (crown) the interests of the student body and the College in the various areas of leadership and community service to students and others.

This past season, Golden was named a captain while finishing her collegiate basketball career. Golden ended her career with appearing in 68 games and totaling 223 points, 169 rebounds, 50 assists and 13 steals. In her senior season she played in 29 games with 13 starts and averaged 4.4 points per game and 3.7 rebounds per game. Golden recorded a career-high in points with 15 against Dominican in early January. She helped lead her team to the Northeast-10 Tournament for their first appearance in three years.

Golden recently graduated with a degree in health sciences and a minor in art history. She is planning on attending graduate school for social works following a summer position with the Girl Scouts WAGGGA center. During her time at Assumption she was an orientation leader, was the Parent and Family Executive for the COMPASS Orientation Program, and the senator for the class of 2020 in the Student Government Association. She also received the SOPHIA collegian her sophomore year and was an Augustine Scholarship recipient both her junior and senior years.

Along with Golden, the two senior team managers were named Crown and Shield recipients. Emma Lang who has been with the program for three years as a human services and rehabilitation studies major. Lang also was the Student Chairperson for COMPASS Orientation, was part of the Campus Ministry as the Agape Latte Co-Coordinator, served as team leader for the START and Horizon Retreats, was the secretary for the class of 2020 in the Student Government Association and was an active member of the SOPHIA Program. John LeDoux has assisted the women's basketball program the last two seasons along with being a health sciences major with a concentration in physical therapy. Also while at Assumption, LeDoux was an active member of the Student Government Association and was most recently the Vice President for Student Affairs, he was an orientation leader, and he ran the Unified Sport Program with Special Olympics and the Plourde for two years.
