Gibson and Meredith Named to Division II East Region All-Decade Teams

WORCESTER, Mass. – Two Assumption women's basketball players have recently been named to the Division II Women's East Region All-Decade team from the 2010's. These teams were selected from the 56 Division II basketball programs in the East Region over the years 2010 to 2020.

Gabrielle Gibson was named to the East Region All-Region Second Team for her outstanding career at Assumption. Gibson was a quick, strong and explosive guard that was the driving force that led the Greyhounds to a pair of NCAA Tournament appearances. She is currently the second leading scorer in Assumption women's basketball history with 1,627 career points along with being sixth in career scoring average with 14.3 points per game. Gibson has the fifth most points in a season with 533 points scored in the 2012-2013 season and has the tenth highest single season scoring average with 17.8 points per game also in the 2012-2013 season. She had four 30-point games in her career and is second in Assumption history for career field goals made with 583. Gibson is fourth in career three-point field goals with 176 made, ninth in career games played with 114, tenth in career steals with 214, and twelfth in career minutes played with 3,007.

Also, during Gibson's four years, she was named NE10 Rookie of the Year for the 2009-2010 season and was also named to the NE10 All-Rookie Team that year. She earned the Andrew Laska Memorial Award in 2010 and went on to be named to the NE10 Third Team All-Conference Team for the 2011-2012 season. In the 2012-2013 season, Gibson really broke out and was named to the NE10 All-Championship Team and was named First Team All-Conference. She recorded a total of 77 wins in her career with one NE10 Championship appearance and appeared in the NCAA Regional Quarterfinals and Semifinals. Gibson was influential in Assumption's success throughout her four years.

Kelly Meredith was also named to the East Region All-Regional Honorable Mention Team for her impressive career as a Hound. Meredith is currently third for the most points in a season with 562 in the 2010-2011 season in the Assumption record book along with holding the fifth highest single season scoring average with 18.9 points per game in the 2011-2012 season. She is the third leading scorer in Assumption Women's Basketball history with 1,612 career points and is eighth for the Hounds in career scoring average with 14.1 points per game. Meredith also recorded five 30-point games in her career and is first in career field goals with 600 made. She is second in career free throws with 384 made, ninth in career games played with 114 and seventh in career minutes with 3,155 played.

Over her four years Meredith was named to the 2008-2009 All-Rookie Team, the 2010-2011 First Team All-Conference Team, the 2011-2012 First Team All-Conference Team, and earned the Andrew Laska Memorial Award in both 2011 and 2012. She also recorded a total of 70 career wins with an NE10 first round appearance, a two-time NE10 Quarterfinalist, an NE10 Semifinalist and made an appearance in the NCAA Regional Semifinals. Meredith was a standout player come her junior and senior year and was the captain of her team. She also went on to play one year overseas in Denmark following her impressive college career.

In program history, the Hounds have made seven NCAA appearances and four just in the last decade. The first appearance came in the 2010-2011 season where Assumption went 22-8 overall and 18-4 in the NE10. The Hounds made it all the way to the NCAA Semifinals after beating Saint Rose 74-64 in the first round. The second NCAA appearance came in the 2012-2013 season where the team went 22-8 overall and 17-5 in the conference. Assumption faced Holy Family in the NCAA First Round in their second NCAA appearance. The very next year for the 2013-2014 season the Hounds made their third appearance in the NCAA Tournament after a 18-11 overall record and a 13-8 record in the NE10. The Hounds faced LIU Post in the NCAA First Round. Assumption's most recent appearance came in the 2016-2017 season when the Hounds went 19-9 overall and 14-7 in the NE10. They reached the NCAA Quarterfinals where they faced Queens.
