Women's Basketball Picked Third in NE10 Northeast Division Preseason Poll

WORCESTER, Mass.- The Assumption College women's basketball team was selected third in the Northeast Division of the NE10 Preseason Coaches Poll, as selected by the conference's head coaches on Wednesday. The Hounds open their season on Wednesday, Nov. 15 at 5:30 pm against Merrimack.

Bentley was picked first in the Northeast Division, earning 12 first-place votes and 103 total points. Stonehill was second with 93 points, followed by Assumption with 74 and Saint Anselm with 58. Southern New Hampshire rounds out the top five with 48 points. In the Southwest Division, AIC received 12 first-place votes and had 90 points total while Adephi was second with 73 points. Le Moyne (72), Southern Connecticut (40) and Pace (37) rounded out the top five. To view the full release, click here.

Last season, Assumption went 19-9 overall with appearances in the NE10 and NCAA Tournament appearance. The Hounds had an eight-game winning streak during the seaso, which included wins over a pair of nationally ranked opponents. They reached the NCAA Tournament as a No. 7 seed in their region before falling to eventual regional champion Queens.

Assumption returns a trio of strong seniors in Morgan O'Brien (Reading, Mass. / Reading), Teneya McLaughlin (Milford, Conn. / Joseph A. Foran), Kiera O'Donnell (Cheshire, Conn. / Holy Cross). O'Brien averaged 6.0 points per game while making 35 threes at a 35.0 percent clip. Mclaughlin was limited to nine games but still averaged 6.6 points, 3.7 rebounds and 3.6 assists per game, while O'Donnell was second on the team with 5.1 rebounds per game.

In addition the team return juniors Abby McKanna (Narragansett, R.I. / Narragansett) Morgan O'Donnell (Easton, Mass. / Ursuline Academy) and Jordan Hawkins (Glen Burnie, Md. / Glen Burnie), who all saw signicifacnt minutes as well. Sophomores Brianna Capacchione (Washington Township, N.J. / Washington Township), Brittni LeBlanc (Townsend, Mass. / North Middlesex Regional) and Katherine Golden (Millis, Mass. / Millis) will also be counted on to contribute this year.

Assumption will host Merrimack to begin their NE10 conference games on Wednesday, November 15th at 5:30 pm in Laska Gymnasium.
