THE BASICS:

- The Lead: Following the opening day of the 2019 NE10 Outdoor Championships, men's track & field sits in sixth, highlighted by a third place finish in the javelin and the top two spots in the decathlon midway through the event.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Junior Kevin Hack (Uxbridge, Mass. / Nipmuc Regional) leads the decathlon through the opening day of competition, with 3,465 points, with sophomore Cameron Donoghue (Yarmouth Port, Mass. / Barnstable) is close behind him in second with 3,240 points. Classmate Derek Girouard (Chicopee, Mass. / Chicopee) is fourth with 2,973 while Joseph Jepsen (Sutton, Mass. / Sutton) is fifth with 2,946 points.
- Hack opened the day by winning the 100 meters in 11.34 seconds and then taking first in the long jump with a leap of 6.35 meters. Donoghue, meanwhile, placed second in each of the first two events before coming through with a victory in the shot put with his distance of 11.12 meters. Girouard placed second in the event. Hack also won the high jump while Jepsen placed second. Hack took second in the 400 meters and Donoghue was third.
- Sophomore Everett Pirtle (Northborough, Mass. / Algonquin) qualified for the finals of the 400 meters after posting a school-record time of 48.39 seconds in the prelims. His time was good for fifth overall and broke his own school record by .08 seconds.
- Junior Max Michaud (Northborough, Mass. / Algonquin) secured a spot in the finals of the 800 after winning the prelims with a time of 1:53.28 seconds. The time was .12 seconds faster than the second place finisher.
- Senior John Plisko (Moosic, Pa. / Riverside) took third in the javelin with his throw of 59.03 meters. Classmate Daniel Florendo (Scotch Plains, N.J. / Union Catholic) came through with an eighth place to earn points for the team with his toss of 51.88 meters.
- In the 10,000 meters, sophomore Andrew Lamb (Marshfield, Mass. / Marshfield) earned a fourth place finish in 32:22.37, while junior Ryan Cardozo (Westport, Mass. / Bishop Stang) was close behind him in sixth with a time of 32:31.11.
INSIDE THE RESULTS:
- Assumption currently sits in sixth place following the first day of competition with 15 points. Southern Connecticut State is first with 56, followed by AIC with 30 and Merrimack with 29. New Haven (21) and Stonehill (19) round out the top five.
