Cameron Donoghue Wins URI Heptathlon

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Sophomore Cameron Donoghue (Yarmouth Port, Mass. / Barnstable) won the URI Heptathlon on Friday to lead the Hounds to a team victory at the URI Multi-Event Qualifier on Friday.

Donoghue totaled 4540 total points, edging out Stephen Cirella of URI who had a score of 4503 points. Derek Girouard (Chicopee, Mass. / Chicopee) placed fifth with 4219 points while Joseph Jepsen (Sutton, Mass. / Sutton) was seventh with a score of 3809 points.

In the 60 meters, Donoghue and Girouard took first and second, finishing in 7.48 and 7.50 seconds. Donoghue also took second in the long jump with a distance of 21'5.5", the shot put with a throw of 37'3.25", the 1000 meters in 2:54.28 and the 60 meter hurdles in 9.07 seconds.

The whole team returns to action on January 11, when they compete at the Spartan Invitational on Staten Island.
