- The Lead: After day one of the 2018 Outdoor Track & Field Championships, the Assumption men's team sits in fifth place with a point total of 22.50 points.

 

HOW IT HAPPENED:

- Junior John Plisko (Moosic, Pa. / Riverside) tallied a huge PR in the javelin, taking home the silver medal with a distance of 197 feet. Sophomore Jeffrey Chicca (Westport, Mass. / Bishop Stang) and senior Joseph Bretta (Westborough, Mass. / Westborough) each recorded top-ten finishes, placing eighth and ninth with distances of 170 feet, 1-inch and 165 feet, 9-inches.

- The 4x800 meter relay raced their way to a bronze medal, as senior Ian Flanagan (North Attleboro, Mass. / North Attleboro), sophomore Max Michaud (Northboro, Mass. / Algonquin), senior Elijah Fossas (Dudley, Mass. / Shepherd Hill Regional) and classmate Jeremy Alley-Tarter (Oak Bluffs, Mass. / Martha's Vineyard) combined to break the school record with a time of 7:39.55.

- In the 10,000 meter run, junior Joe Baron (Cobleskill, N.Y. / Cobleskill-Richmondville) registered a fifth place finish with a time of 33:36.57, while senior Jonathan Geromini (Franklin, Mass. / Franklin) came in tenth with a time of 34:56.64.

- Both freshmen Joseph Santos (Warwick, R.I. / Bishop Hendricken) and Antonio Di Genova (Waltham, Mass. / Waltham) qualified for Saturday's finals in the 110 meter hurdles, as Santos finished sixth with a time of 15.25 seconds, while Di Genova placed eighth in 15.42 seconds.

- In the pole vault, freshman Derek Girouard (Chicopee, Mass. / Chicopee) finished fifth after clearing a height of 13 feet, 3.5-inches.

- In the decathlon, sophomore Kevin Hack (Uxbridge, Mass. / Nipmuc Regional) and Girouard competed and have set themselves up for a high finish in day two. Hack won the high jump (6 feet, 6-inches), while placing in the top-three in a handful of events such as the 100 meter dash (11.44 seconds), the shot put (34 feet, 4.75-inches) and the long jump (19 feet, 11.75-inches). Girouard placed second in the long jump with a distance of 20 feet, 4.5 inches, while also finishing third in the high jump with a height of 6 feet, 1.25-inches.
