Men’s Track & Field Competes at URI Coaches Tribute Meet

 



THE BASICS:

- Race: URI Coaches Tribute Meet

- Location: Providence R.I.

- The Lead: Assumption had a pair of top-two finishes and received a school-record performance from freshman Joseph Santos (Warwick, R.I. / Bishop Hendricken) on Friday evening at the URI Coaches Tribute Meet.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

- Keelan Thomas (Bronx, N.Y. / New Rochelle) put forth an impressive performance in the 60 meter dash, placing fifth overall with his time of 7.10 seconds.

- Sophomore Max Michaud (Northboro, Mass. / Algonquin) continued his impressive season, taking second overall in the 800 meters, finishing in a time of 1:55.65. Junior Elijah Fossas (Dudley, Mass. / Shepherd Hill Regional) was behind him in sixth with a time of 1:59.89.

- In the 400 meters, Jeremy Alley-Tarter (Oak Bluffs, Mass. / Martha's Vineyard) placed sixth with a time of 51.71 while Everett Pirtle (Northborough, Mass. / Algonquin) was eighth in 52.00.

- Sophomore William Mardo (Cumberland, R.I. / Cumberland) earned his first collegiate victory, winning the 1000 meters in a time of 2:34.16, while Ian Flanagan (North Attleboro, Mass. / North Attleboro) placed fourth in 2:37.55.

- Santos broke his own school record in the 60 meter hurdles, finishing the event in fourth with a time of 8.62 second, 0.05 seconds faster than his school record. Antonio Di Genova (Waltham, Mass. / Waltham) was sixth in the event.

- Freshman Andrew Lamb (Marshfield, Mass. / Marshfield) put forth a top-five finish in the 3,000 meters with his time of 9:09.79.

- The 4x400 relay consisting of Alley-Tarter, Michaud, Mardo and Fossas placed second after combining to finish with a time of 3:29.39.

- Freshmen Derek Girouard (Chicopee, Mass. / Chicopee) and Cameron Donoghue (Yarmouth Port, Mass. / Barnstable) both competed in the high jump, as Girouard placed eighth (5 feet, 11.5-inches) and Donoghue finished ninth with the same leap of 5 feet, 11.5-inches.

- Junior Dillon Bruso (Auburn, Mass. / Auburn) recorded a ninth place finish in the shot put after registering a distance of 45 feet, 1.5-inches, while Girouard and Thomas tied for seventh in the long jump, as they both recorded a distance of 20 feet, 9-inches.

- The Hounds return to action next weekend when they compete in the NE10 Championships, Feb. 17-18 at Smith College.
