Fierimonte, Butler Lead Balanced Effort at NE-10 Championship

New Haven, Conn. (May 2) -- At the 2015 Northeast-10 Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championship, the Assumption College men's track and field team placed eighth overall out of 11 teams as the Hounds finished with 40 points.

Senior Tony Fierimonte (Northborough, Mass./Algonquin Regional) captured his second consecutive Northeast-10 crown in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 9:21.16 on Saturday to win the event by over nine seconds. He then capped off his weekend with a third-place finish in the 5,000 meters as he ran a personal best of 14:37.24 to set the school record and reach the NCAA provisional qualifying time in that event as well.

Sophomore Darnell Butler (Hudson, Mass./Hudson) scored in a pair of individual events as well as he scored in both the 100 and 200 meters. In the 100, Butler placed fourth with a time of 10.87, marking the second-fastest time in program history. He then turned around and finished fifth in the 200 meters as he crossed in 22.15.

Butler was also part of the 4x100 meter relay team that finished third overall as Butler, junior Kevon Lumsden (Englewood, N.J./Dwight Morrow), senior Kyler Huffert (Woodstock, Vt./Woodstock Union) and senior Darius Daniels (Clearwater, Fla./Tarpon) crossed in a time of 42.84 seconds.

In the field events, freshman Alex Cerbo (Cranston, R.I./Bishop Hendricken) and sophomore Tim Jensen (Manchester, Conn./East Catholic) each scored in a pair of events to pace the group. On Friday, Cerbo and Jensen both scored in the hammer throw as the duo went fifth and sixth, respectively. Cerbo registered a toss of 144 feet, 10 inches, while Jensen threw 142 feet, two inches. Jensen also scored in the javelin on Friday, placing eighth with a throw of 158 feet, seven inches. Cerbo qualified for the finals in the shot put on Saturday and finished eighth in the event with a throw of 45 feet, 11.75 inches.
