Swimming and Diving Takes Second at NE10 Championships

THE BASICS:

- Event: NE10 Championships

- Results: 2nd

- Location: Worcester, Mass. (WPI)

- The Lead: Assumption claimed second at the NE10 Championships after swimming their way to first in the third day and hanging on to earn their seventh consecutive first or second-place finish in the NE10 Championships!

HOW IT HAPPENED: DAY 1

- The Hounds started off the meet with a third-place finish in the 800 free relay when a team composed of Erin Tague (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla./Palm Beach Gardens), Adelaide Ferrick (Westford, Mass./Westford Academy), Grace Gustinis (Monroe, Conn./Masuk) and Anne Guadalupi (Augusta, Maine/Cony) finished the event in 7:39.15.

- Tague then went on to claim her first NE10 Championship in the 1000 free when she took first in 10:22.82 for a personal best and new team record for Assumption and a new NE10 record.

BEHIND THE RESULTS: DAY 1

- After the first day of competition, the Hounds were in third with a total of 84 points following Southern Connecticut in first with 106 points and Bentley in second with 90 points.

- The Hounds were ahead of Le Moyne in fourth with 59 points, Pace in fifth with 40, Saint Rose in sixth with 32, Adelphi in seventh with 26 and Saint Michael's in eighth with 22.

HOW IT HAPPENED: DAY 2

- Tague landed a top-five in the second day with a fourth-place finish in the 500 free in a time of 5:05.87 for a personal best and just two seconds off from the Assumption record.

- In the 200 IM, Isabelle Roberts (Nantucket, Mass./Nantucket) took fourth in a time of 2:10.10 for a new personal best. The Hounds' success continued when Abbey Holmes (Laurel, Md./Archbishop Spalding) won the 50 free in 23.84 for a new Assumption record and a new NE10 record. Ferrick was right behind Holmes in second with a time of 24.03 for a personal best.

- Assumption went on to win the 200 free relay with a team composed of Ferrick, Holmes, Natalia Kaczor (Chicopee, Mass./Chicopee) and Emma Magna (Niantic, Conn./East Lyme) in a time of 1:35.01 to set a new Assumption record and a new NE10 record. The Hounds also took second in the 400 medley relay in a time of 3:56.18 with a team made up of MacKenzie Day (Stoneham, Mass./Stoneham High), Holmes, Kaczor and Ferrick to end the second night of competition.

BEHIND THE RESULTS: DAY 2

- Assumption moved up to second after the second day of competition with 329 points following Southern Connecticut in first with 358 points.

- The Hounds edged out Bentley who is in third with 305 points and followed by Pace in fourth (173), Le Moyne in fifth (144), Saint Rose in sixth (143.5), Adelphi in seventh (139.5) and Saint Michael's in eighth (68).

HOW IT HAPPENED: DAY 3

- Kaczor started the third day off with a second-place finish in the 100 butterfly in a time of 57.52, which is a new personal best. Tague continued the success into the 200 free with a fourth-place finish in 1:54.41 for a personal best.

- Holmes set a new Assumption record and NE10 record in the 100 breaststroke when she won the event in 1:03.43 and was followed in by teammate Roberts in third in 1:06.90.

- Two Hounds earned top-five in the 100 backstroke starting with Day in third with a time of 58.31 and trailed by teammate Guadalupi in fourth in 58.90.

- Assumption rounded out the third day of competition with a second-place finish in the 200 medley relay with a team made up of Day, Roberts, Kaczor and Holmes in a time of 1:46.29.

BEHIND THE RESULTS: DAY 3

- The Hounds broke into first place after the third day of competition with a total of 583.5 points and trailed by Southern Connecticut with 578 points in second.

- Bentley stayed at third with 489.5 points followed by Pace in fourth (293), Le Moyne in fifth (236), Saint Rose in sixth (234.5), Adelphi in seventh (226.5) and Saint Michael's in eighth (131).

HOW IT HAPPENED: DAY 4

- Day started off the fourth and final day of competition with a fifth-place finish in the 200 backstroke in a time of 2:07.54 for a new personal best. Roberts then went on to take third in the 200 breaststroke in 2:24.84 and Kaczor took fourth in the 200 butterfly in 2:07.88.

- Holmes claimed another NE10 championship in the 100 free in a time of 52.10 for a new Assumption record and was followed by Ferrick who took fourth in the event in 52.87 for a personal best.

- Colleen Kurtz (Somerset, N.J./Rutgers Preparatory) swam to an impressive second-place finish in the 1650 free in just 17:34.72 while Allison Barclay (Knoxville, Tenn./Bearden) took fourth in 17:49.35.

- The Hounds rounded out the NE10 Championships with a victory in the 400 free relay to set a new NE10 record and Assumption record with a team of Ferrick, Tague, Guadalupi, and Holmes who finished in 3:29.31.

BEHIND THE RESULTS: DAY 4

- The Hounds finished the meet in second with a total of 830.5 points while Southern Connecticut took the championship with a total of 863 points.

- Bentley took third with 703.5 points while Pace claimed fourth (415), Le Moyne took fifth (348), Saint Rose took sixth (326.5), Adelphi took seventh (315.5) and Saint Michael's claimed eighth (173).

- Guadalupi earned the Elite 24 Award while Holmes claimed the NE10 Women's Most Outstanding Swimmer for the second year in a row.

- This Runner-Up for the Hounds is their seventh consecutive year of either winning or being the Runner-Up in the NE10 Championships. The Hounds won the championships in 2014, 2015, and 2016 and then again last year in 2019 with runner-up's in 2017, 2018 and now 2020.
