Swimming and Diving Holds Second Place After Day One of NE10 Championships

THE BASICS:

- Event: NE10 Championships Day One

- Location: Worcester, Mass. (WPI)

- The Lead: Assumption sits in second place on the first day of the NE10 Championships with 95 points, following a pair of school-record performances on Thursday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

- Shannon Quirk (Wakefield, Mass./Wakefield Memorial) led the Hounds with a first place finish in the 1000 free with a time of 10:24.09. The NE10 Champion set a new school record and broke her previous school record by more than four seconds. Junior Colleen Kurtz (Somerset, N.J./Rutgers Preparatory) placed third in the event (10:34.61).

- Assumption claimed second place in the 800 free relay with a team composed of Anne Guadalupi (Augusta, Maine/Cony), Payton Horton (Port Elizabeth, South Africa/St. Dominic's), Kurtz and Morgan Nicholls (East London, South Africa/Clarendon) in a school-record time of 7:37.64. The Hounds followed Bentley who swam the relay in 7:34.90.

BEHIND THE RESULTS:

- Bentley currently holds the first place spot with 104 points, while the Hounds are in second with 95 points followed by Southern Connecticut State with 73 points.

- The Hounds are back in the pool for the second day of the NE10 Championships tomorrow, February 8, at WPI all day.
