Holmes Claims NE10 Swimmer of the Week Honors

WORCESTER, Mass. –
Sophomore Abbey Holmes (Laurel, Md. / Archbishop Spalding) of the Assumption swimming & diving team has been named the NE10 Swimmer of the Week, while sophomore Colleen Kurtz (Somerset, N.J. / Rutgers Preparatory), freshman Anne Guadalupi (Augusta, Maine / Cony), junior Morgan Nicholls (East London, South Africa / Clarendon) and Holmes earned Relay of the Week honors for their performance at the WPI Gompei Invitational.

Holmes was a driving force in helping the Hounds claim the WPI Gompei Invitational, as she won the 100 IM with a new school-record time of 59.06 seconds and is also the first swimmer in the NE10 to break a minute. She also set the top mark in the conference in the 50 breaststroke (31.15 seconds), the second fastest time in the 50 freestyle (24.36 seconds), the third best mark in the 100 breaststroke (1:08.10) and was a member of the 200 freestyle (1:39.22) and 800 freestyle relay (7:48.00) that owns the top spot in the NE10.

The 800 freestyle relay consisting of Kurtz, Guadalupi, Nicholls and Holmes combined to finish second at the Gompei Invitational with a time of 7:48.00, which is the top time in the NE10 by 12 seconds.

The Hounds return to action January 20th when they travel to LIU Post to take on the Pioneers in a dual meet at 1:00 p.m.
