Hounds Picked to Three-Peat NE-10 Swim Title

Mansfield, Mass. (February 2) -- After claiming back-to-back titles in 2014 and 2015, the Assumption College women's swimming team has been picked to three-peat the Northeast-10 Championship in the 2016 Coaches' Poll, the league announced on Tuesday. The Hounds are set to host the 2016 Northeast-10 Swimming and Diving Championships this weekend, Thursday, Feb. 4 through Sunday, Feb. 7 at WPI.

This weekend's championships will be available for viewing online, for free, at www.assumptiongreyhounds.tv. There will also be a FREE fan bus leaving the Plourde for the Saturday evening session and FREE pizza for those who take the bus, sponsored by Ernie's Pizza and More in Worcester. The bus is set to leave at 5:30 p.m. - signups in the main athletics office.

Last season, the Hounds claimed the title by 339 points. Assumption amassed a total of 991 points over the four-day competition to claim the gold, followed by Bentley in second with 592 points and Southern Connecticut with 581. Assumption's Niamh Morgan (Bettystown, Ireland / Sacred Heart School) was named NE-10 Swimmer of the Meet for her impressive efforts as a freshman.

The Hounds earned 64 points in this year's poll and collected eight first-place votes, followed by Bentley in second with 54 points and the remaining first place vote, coaches are not allowed to vote for their own teams.

Assumption has also had a strong presence in the league so far this season, collecting six NE-10 Swimmer of the Week honors, five Rookie of the Week, six Relay Team of the Week and 10 nods on the NE-10 Weekly Honor Roll. Of those awards, senior Victoria Weber (Augusta, Maine / Cony) and Morgan claimed three Swimmer of the Week honors apiece while freshman Shannon Quirk (Wakefield, Mass. / Wakefield Memorial) earned all of Assumption's rookie awards. 

The 2016 NE-10 Championships are set to commence on Thursday, February 6 at 6 p.m. and will continue through Sunday. For a full schedule of events, click HERE
