Quirk, 800 Freestyle Relay Team Honored by Northeast-10

Mansfield, Mass. (January 18) -- Assumption College freshman Shannon Quirk (Wakefield, Mass./Wakefield Memorial) has been named as the Northeast-10 Conference Rookie of the Week after picking up two meet records at last week's Worcester City Championship. In addition, the 800 meter freestyle relay team also earned Relay Team of the Week honors for their performance.

In the Worcester City Championship, Quirk posted a pair of victories that both came in as meet records. She shattered the mark in the 1650 free by 19 seconds as she touched in 17:43.50, while she set the 500 freestyle record by seven seconds in the 500 free in a time of 5:08.89. Her time in the 500 broke the record held previously by Assumption standout Monique Haney.

The 800 freestyle relay team picked up Relay Team of the Week accolades after winning the city championship by over seven seconds in a time of 7:54.17. That team consisted of junior Rachel Lanam (Sebastian, Fla./Sebastian River), Quirk, junior Tricia Lee (Norwood, Mass./Norwood) and junior Allie Wuerfl (Wayland, Mass./Wayland).

The Hounds have one final competition before hosting the 2016 Northeast-10 Championships. Assumption will travel to Bridgeport on Saturday, January 23rd, before kicking of the Northeast-10 Championships on Thursday, February 4th at WPI. The Hounds look to defend their two-time champion status over the four-day event.
