Morgan and Quirk Named NE-10 Swimmer and Rookie of the Week

Mansfield, Mass. (October 19) -- Sophomore Niamh Morgan (Bettystown, Ireland / Sacred Heart School) and freshman Shannon Quirk (Wakefield, Mass. / Wakefield Memorial) of the Assumption swimming and diving team have been awarded Northeast-10 honors as the Hounds sweep swimmer and rookie awards for the second-straight week.

OFFICIAL NE-10 RELEASE

Morgan earns her first NE-10 Swimmer of the Week honor of the season after claiming two last year, in addition to her NE-10 Rookie of the Year honor. This week, Morgan emerged victorious in all three of her races in which she swam at the Catholic College Invitational against five Division I teams.

She placed first in the 200 IM with her time of 2:12.25, first in the 400 IM (4:40.01) and also in the 200 backstroke with her time of 2:09.00. All three of Morgan's times this week at the Catholic College Invitational are faster than her times from last season at the same event.

Quirk's NE-10 Rookie of the Week honor marks her second this season as the freshman has earned the honor in back-to-back weeks. Quirk registered two silver-medal finishes at the Catholic College Invitational. She clocked a time of 5:13.40 in the 500 freestyle and a 10:43.31 in the 1,000 freestyle, each good for second place. Her 1,000 freestyle time now ranks her 10th in the nation. The freshman also tallied an additional top-five performance in the 200 freestyle.

Morgan, Quirk and the rest of the Hounds return to action on Saturday, Oct. 24, when they host Le Moyne at the Plourde Pool at 3 p.m.
