In 2016, Corrao led the Hounds to their best season in five years and first NE10 tournament appearance since 2009, posting a 7-10-1 overall record and 6-6-1 mark in conference play. The Hounds placed two players, Jason Lages and Simon Trcka, on the NE10 All-Conference Second Team. Both players were also named to the NE10 All-Rookie Team for their efforts. This was the first time in Corrao’s tenure that the Hounds had multiple players named to NE10 All-Conference Teams.

 

The 2016 season was an impressive turnaround from a difficult 2015, in which Corrao’s side  posted a 2-12-4 record. The team did garner impressive academic achievements in 2015, being awarded the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Team Academic Award for the 2014-2015 academic year, posting a cumulative GPA over 3.0. Additionally, goalkeeper and senior captain, Dana King earned NE10 Third Team All-Conference honors, while freshman Harrison Eden was named to the NE10 All-Rookie Team for his play.

 

In his first season as head coach at Assumption College in 2015, Corrao guided the Hounds to an overall record of 3-11-2 while featuring a roster of predominantly underclassmen. That season, two players earned All-Conference selections with senior Kieran Hillery being named to the NE10 Third Team, NE10 Academic All-Conference Team and NSCAA Division Scholar Honorable Mention. Additionally, freshman Connor Henry earned an NE10 All-Rookie Team selection as a defender. Following that first season, Corrao helped mentor rising junior, Hector Sola to the national stage as he earned a spot on the Puerto Rican National Team that participated in World Cup qualifying in the summer of 2015.

 

Corrao came to Assumption from Division II, Molloy College in Rockville Center, New York where he served as an assistant coach for the Lions from January of 2013 to July of 2014. At Molloy, Corrao mentored six student athletes that were named to the ECC Commissioner’s Honor Roll for the 2013-2014 Academic Year, which included ECC All-Conference First Team Selection Senior Forward Dan Brown. Academically, Corrao helped mentor the soccer team as they contributed to a major milestone for the Molloy College Athletic Department, as for the first time in school history, every athletic program achieved a GPA of 3.0 or higher for the academic year.

 

Prior to his time at Molloy, Corrao served as the director of operations for the former NCAA Division I, men’s soccer program at Adelphi University in Garden City, New York. While he worked at Adelphi for the 2010-2011 seasons the Panthers advanced to the 2011 Atlantic Soccer Conference Championship Game.

 

Corrao also has spent time as a coach at the high school level working as the camp director at St. Anthony’s High School in South Huntington, N.Y. During his time at St. Anthony’s the team saw remarkable success, winning four New York State Catholic High School Championships. During that time, Corrao also served as the Technical Director at the Village of Branch Soccer Club in Smithtown, New York.

 

In addition to his coaching experience, Corrao played for the men’s soccer program at Division I Fordham University(2007-2010), where he appeared in 24 matches, scoring his lone collegiate goal at St. Joseph’s University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on the final day of Atlantic-10 regular season play.  In this game Fordham clinched a berth in the Atlantic-10 tournament. During his time at Fordham he was a member of the Atlantic-10 Commissioner’s Honor Roll, the International Honor Society of Economics, Omicron Delta Epsilon, and the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).

 

Corrao graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in International Political Economy and a minor in Business Administration in 2011. He earned his Masters of Business Administration degree from Molloy College in 2014.

 

Corrao credits his father, Don for his pursuit of a coaching career. Don Corrao is the Associate Head Coach at St. Anthony’s High School in New York and has contributed to four state championship teams, including one in 2005 when his son, DJ was a player. 

 

Corrao currently resides in Worcester, Massachusetts but still considers New York to be home as he is an uncle to seven nieces and nephews - William, Taylor, Kristen, Lauren, Madelyn, Owen and Liam.
