Men's Soccer Loses 1-0 to Merrimack

THE BASICS:

-Score: Merrimack 1, Assumption 0

-Records: Merrimack (11-5-0, 8-5-0 NE10), Assumption (8-5-2, 6-4-2 NE10)

-Location: North Andover, Mass. (Martone-Mejail Field)

-The Lead: Despite five saves from goalkeeper Sebastian Jimenez (Naples, Fla. / Gulf Coast High School), the Assumption Greyhounds fell to the Merrimack Warriors 1-0 in their final regular season game of the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

-Tola Showunmi scored his first goal of the season and the game-winner at the 63:12 mark on a shot assisted by Mirko Nufi.

-The two teams played to a scoreless tie at halftime. Jimenez made two saves in the first half, including one on a shot by Gianluca Arlotti at the 39:01 mark to preserve the shutout at the time.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

-Merrimack held a 14-5 shot advantage and also edged the Hounds in corner kicks, 5-3. Alex Moschella (Miller Place, N.Y. / Miller Place) led the team with two shots.

-Jimenez made five saves for the Hounds but fell to 8-6-2. Tyler Packett made one save for the Warriors and improved to 9-4-0.

-The Hounds conclude their regular season with 20 points within the NE10 conference.

UP NEXT:

-With the conclusion of the regular season, the Hounds, who currently sit in fifth place within the NE10 conference, await their opponent in the opening round of the NE10 playoffs, which will take place on Tuesday, October 30, at 7 p.m.
