Men's Soccer Secures Playoff Spot With 2-1 Win Over Stonehill

THE BASICS:

-Score: Assumption 2, Stonehill 1

-Records: Assumption (8-5-2, 6-4-2 NE10), Stonehill (6-8-1, 5-7-0 NE10)

-Location: Worcester, Mass. (Multi-Sport Stadium)

-The Lead: Freshman Tyler Moreau (Hooksett, N.H. / Manchester Central) scored his first collegiate goal and the game-winner against Stonehill, as the Assumption Greyhounds won 2-1 in their last home game of the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

-Moreau scored at the 62:30 mark on a ball put out front by Alex Moschella (Miller Place, N.Y. / Miller Place). Moreau tapped it in to put his team up 2-1.

-The Hounds scored their first of two unanswered goals at the 60:13 mark. Connor Willis (North Andover, Mass. / North Andover) charged the net and scored from center field and about six yards out.

-Ryan Chieffo put the Skyhawks up 1-0 early on in the first half on a kick from about 10-yards out. The Skyhawks led 1-0 at halftime.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

-Assumption held a 25-18 shot advantage. However, the Skyhawks held a 4-1 advantage in corner kicks. Jason Lages (Edgartown, Mass. / Martha's Vineyard) led the team with six shots.

-Willis now has five points in his last five games. A freshman, he has five goals and one assist on the year.

-Sebastian Jimenez (Naples, Fla. / Gulf Coast High School) made seven saves for the Hounds and improved to 8-5-2 on the year. Billy Troast made eight saves for the Skyhawks and fell to 4-7-1 on the year.

-The win means that the Hounds officially qualify for the NE10 playoffs. If the team beats Merrimack in its final game of the season, the Hounds will then host a playoff game in the opening round.

-The Hounds will travel to Merrimack on Friday, October 26, for their final game of the season starting at 4 p.m.
