Men's Soccer Takes Home 4-1 Win on Senior Day

THE BASICS:

-Score: Assumption 4, Saint Anselm 1

-Records: Assumption (7-5-2, 5-4-2 NE10), Saint Anselm (0-11-2, 0-9-2 NE10)

-Location: Worcester, Mass. (Multi-Sport Stadium)

-The Lead: On Senior Day for the Assumption Greyhounds, this year's senior class got a boost from teammates and juniors Jason Lages (Edgartown, Mass. / Martha's Vineyard) (two goals) and Alex Moschella (Miller Place, N.Y. / Miller Place) to defeat the Saint Anselm Hawks 4-1.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

-The Hounds scored the first four goals of the game and went up 2-0 by halftime. Lages and Kevin Hernandez (San Juan, P.R. / Colegio San Jose) both scored in the first half, scoring just five minutes and 29 seconds apart.

-Moschella then put the Hounds up 3-0 at the 47:38 mark on a free kick. Lages netted his second goal of the game at the 65:47 mark on a crossed ball that he one-timed into the back of the net.

-Jayden West scored the Hawk's lone goal on a rebound shot from about 10 yards out.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

-Assumption held a 17-13 shot advantage throughout the game. However, the Hawks held a 4-2 advantage in corner kicks. Lages led the team with five shots.

-Lages' two goals marks the third time this season he has scored two goals in one game. He has scored five goals in his last three games and nine on the year.

-Sebastian Jimenez (Naples, Fla. / Gulf Coast High School) made seven saves for the Hounds and improved to 7-5-2 on the year. Matthew Skydel (Cheshire, Conn. / Cheshire) relieved Jimenez and made one save. Connor Page made two saves for the Hawks and fell to 0-1-0 on the year. Jacob Rostkowski started for Saint Anselm and made three saves.

-The win moves the Hounds into sixth place in the Northeast-10 standings with two games left before the NE10 championships.

UP NEXT:

-The Hounds will travel to Stonehill on Tuesday, October 23, in their final home match of the season. Play begins at 7 p.m.
