Second-half Comeback Ends in 2-2 Tie for Men's Soccer

THE BASICS:

-Score: Assumption 2, St. Michael's 2 (2OT)

-Records: Assumption (4-2-1, 2-1-1 NE10), St. Michael's (2-4-1, 1-2-1 NE10)

The Lead:

-A second-half comeback by the Hounds that included two goals by Jason Lages (Edgartown, Mass. / Martha's Vineyard Regional) eventually ended in a 2-2 tie with the St. Michael's Purple Knights.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

-The Purple Knights led 1-0 at halftime. Jacob von Giebel put his team up 1-0 at the 4:39 mark. He scored again at the 47:52 mark to put his team up 2-0 early on in the second-half.

-Lages pulled the Hounds within one, 2-1, at the 71:35 mark. He tied the game at two at the 86:26 mark on a header, assisted by Alex Moschella (Miller Place, N.Y. / Miller Place). Moschella produced a corner kick within the 90th minute but to no avail, as the Purple Knights turned his attempt away.

-The Hounds outshot St. Michael's 6-3 within two overtime periods and had a chance to win the game within the final minute when Ruben Faria (Fall River, Mass. / Bishop Connolly High School) put a shot on net, but his attempt was blocked as the game ended in a 2-2 tie.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

-The Hounds held a 21-17 shot advantage, including a 6-3 advantage within two overtime periods. The Hounds also held a 5-2 advantage in corner kicks.

-Lages scored his first two goals of the season. He scored nine goals in the 2016-17 season and five during the 2017-18 season.

-Assumption goalie Sebastian Jimenez (Naples, Fla. / Gulf Coast High School) made six saves and moved to 4-2-1 on the year. St. Michael's. goalie Leland Gazo made four saves and moved to 0-2-1. Gabriel Pineda came in and made three saves for the Purple Knights.
