Men's Soccer Falls to No. 22 Mercy, 1-0, in Final Minute of Overtime

THE BASICS:

-The Lead: Ignacio Mangada scored the game-winning goal with 38 seconds left in the first overtime to lift No. 22 Mercy over Assumption College, 1-0, on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

-Mangada gained a cross pass from Jose Izarra from the middle of the field. He beat Assumption goalie Sebastian Jimenez (Naples, Fla. / Gulf Coach High School) one-on-one to send his team home with the win with 38 seconds left in the first overtime.

-Assumption played great defense throughout the game despite the loss. They helped turn away two corner kicks and three Mercy shots within overtime. They also helped turn away three shots and two corner kicks within the final 10 minutes of regulation.

-The two teams played to a scoreless tie in the first-half. Mercy outshot Assumption 11-3 during the first-half and held a 5-1 advantage in corner kicks.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

-Mercy held a 21-8 shot advantage for the game. They held a 3-0 shot advantage in overtime. Mercy also held a 10-3 advantage in corner kicks.

-Jimenez faced 21 shots and made six saves, but fell to 2-1-0 on the year. Mercy goalie Jordan Williams faced seven shots and made four saves and improved to 3-0-0 on the year.

-Jimenez has now made 21 saves on the year (averaging seven saves per game) and has allowed only one goal, playing to a .955 save percentage.
