Skyhawks Soar Past Hounds in 4-2 Road Loss

Easton, Mass. (September 27) -- On Tuesday afternoon in Northeast-10 Conference action, the Assumption College men's soccer team dropped a 4-2 final to Stonehill. The Greyhounds fall to 2-4 overall and 2-3 in league play, while the Skyhawks improve to 4-4 on the season and 2-2 in Northeast-10 action.

Stonehill jumped on the board just 3:22 into the game as Ross McWilliams chipped the ball over the head of charging Assumption goalkeeper Dylan Strachen (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield Warde) for the 1-0. The Hounds scored the equalizer less than two minutes later though as senior Scott Buckholz (Seymour, Conn./Seymour) scored his first goal of the season. Michael Agbortoko (Southbridge, Mass./Southbridge) threw the ball in to Luke Whelan (New Fairfield, Conn./Immaculate), who headed it directly to Buckholz for the goal.

The Skyhawks closed the first half strong however with goals by Kevin Conti and Mark Bolster to make it a 3-1 game at the break. Bolster scored just over 10 minutes into the second half to push the lead to 4-1 before the Hounds answered with a goal at the 61:12 mark. Junior Tom Carroll (Belford, N.J./Middletown North) sent a cross to freshman Kieran Hillery (Smithfield, R.I./Smithfield), who headed the ball in for his second goal of the season.

Strachen made five saves in the loss for the Hounds, while Adam Colella had one save in the victory.

The Greyhounds are back in action on Saturday, October 1st as the team travels to American International for a 2 p.m. start at Ronald J. Abdow Field.
